To Calicus Fane, it had never really looked like a tree. No, it had always appeared more to him like a cosmic featherduster. Despite his opinion, the rest of the universe had determined the structure was quite tree-like, and thus named this region of space "The Grove." Calicus, however, being who he was, was less interested in the opinions of other people and more interested in facts -- and the fact stood that this actually was a cosmic featherduster. Of sorts. Okay, not really. But, it would eventually destroy at least three nearby galaxies in a cascade of explosions reasonably soon. That was similar enough to the purpose of a featherduster to Calicus for him to ignore the perspective of the masses. Begrudgingly, however, he admitted to himself that he had no intention of letting it serve its purpose. He had come here to figure out how to end this impending doom, and he'd be damned if he didn't.
