I am a flower, alone survivor
Not "a lone" but alone
For I have failed in my heart to be your provider
And for this and more I must now atone

The winter of the world is here
I stood to weather it with nothing to fear
Knowing that you'd always be near
And about none other did I really care

But then, again I die
Into the ground I must go
I don't bother to question why
Nature has declared it so

And so I die to rise and fall
I'm trapped within this thrall
So I build a defensive wall
To shut out one and all

Except for you, the one for me
Someone unexpected
So blinded I couldn't see
That we were somehow connected

I bask within the warmth you emanate
I watch you as you glow and radiate
We sit in silence as we both commiserate
And curse the hands dealt to us by fate

And now as we share this company
I know you understand
And as I grow I know you'll be there patiently
Waiting with your helping paw.
