Description

Ah yes, the moper of the bunch; look how dead inside she is. Again, haven’t changed anything with Silly String - she was the one I designed first and is the one I’ve been the most happy with throughout the whole process. I debated for all of two seconds on whether or not I should give her straight hair, like all those other sad Pinkie Pie kids, but then I figured I like the whole ‘pastel colours and poofy hair’ look, so I kept it. Also, before I coloured her in, she was going to be called Blue Balloon, but I don’t think Pinkie and Cheese could produce a sufficiently blue kiddo so we got Silly String instead.

~~~~~
That being said!
Full Name: Silly String
Nickname(s): Silly, Silly-Billy, String, Stringy, String-Bean, Silly-Sweetie
Gender: Female
Species: Earth Pony
Talent: Drawing
Cutie Mark: A pencil with three coloured squiggly lines
Parents: Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich (yes, I know, cliche, but I don’t care)
Antithesis: Laughter
When you look at her life, Silly String doesn’t really have any reasons to be sad; her parents are loving, her siblings are annoying, but in an endearing way so it’s alright, and the family’s never been in financial or emotional trouble of any kind. However, clinical depression doesn’t care about all this, so Silly’s stuck feeling sad and empty, lacking the willpower and energy to go on with life, but not really desiring for it to end, either. She’s only recently been diagnosed, but no one really thinks it’s possible for someone with a life as nice as hers to be depressed, but she’s starting to get the help she needs, don’t worry.
When she was little, Silly used to be a happy-go-lucky filly with lost of friends and a passion for drawing. She enjoyed school, and liked hanging out with her parents and helping them set up for parties and the like. She even had her own version of Pinkie/Cheesy Sense, which the family dubbed ‘Silly Sense’, although no one was quite sure what it meant. Silly was like a tiny Pinkie Pie; friends with everyone in town, always looking to make people smile. But then school kicked up a notch when she got older and it wasn’t quite so fun anymore. She’d never exactly been the best at paying attention in class, but it had never been a problem until now, because school hadn’t mattered as much as it did now. Silly, despite being a bright girl, had no idea how to really study for things, and so fell behind the rest of her peers. The feeling of being left behind by her classmates and the stress of having so much work to do kickstarted a spiral of depression in Silly, and the more depressed she became, the less she focused on her work, the more she fell behind, and the more she became depressed.
She stopped hanging out with her friends so she could study more, but just got down on herself when she felt she couldn’t do it. She stopped helping her parents and playing with her siblings, stopped doing the things she used to love because she just didn’t have the passion for them anymore and couldn’t find the energy to do them anyway. She even stopped drawing, which she was so good at it was her special talent, and only doodled in class when she should have been anything attention, because by this point she’d completely given up. She also stopped talking and interacting with people, because it was getting to be tiring just being around them, let alone engaging them in conversation.
Of course, this lack of effort and consistent failing of classes lead to Silly being dropped form quite a few schools, much to the dismay of her parents and teachers. Many places tried really hard to engage her in learning once more, but all failed, which is why Silly ended up at Luna’s School for Troubled Ponies. Here, she’ll actually start on the path to getting better, find the help she needs, and finally start living again instead of just going through the motions. How does this happen, I hear you ask? Well, that’s part of the story so I ain’t gonna tell ya. All I’m saying about it is that it’s not going to be instantaneous.
Relationships:
Pinkie Pie;
Pinkie and SIlly used to be really close when Silly was little, as they shared a lot of interests and their personalities meshed really well. When Silly started to spiral, Pinkie thought she was just a bit down in the dumps, and tried everything she could to get her little girl to smile again. This had the unfortunate effect, however, of pushing her daughter further away, as Pinkie’s antics proved exhausting for the girl to be around. That hasn’t stopped Pinkie from trying though, and she does have her more serious, quiet moments with her daughter, still, where they both just sit peacefully together of an evening, when Pinkie’s managed to trie herself out from the day’s activities and is much less loud than usual. In those times, they’re still really close, and can have some lovely conversations, but only as long as Pinkie doesn’t mention how badly Silly’s doing in school, or talk about all the things they used to do together with longing in her voice.
Cheese;
Funnily enough, Cheese has always somehow managed to be the most chill parent, and also the most over the top one. See, usually, Cheese is more sensible than Pinkie, but when he goes big, he goes big. He’s also not really the best at reading the room, as evidenced by how he made Pinkie feel awful that one time when he was trying to impress her, which kinda negatively impacted his relationship with Silly when she first started struggling with depression. See, Pinkie quickly learnt to tone down her antics (as much as she could) after a while of Silly telling her to, but Cheese refused to believe he couldn’t get his daughter to smile, so he just kept doing more and more ridiculous things. Silly didn’t appreciate this, and so distanced herself from him for a while. She came around eventually again, though, after Pinkie had a word with her husband and he agreed to stop pestering Silly. Now? The two are closer than Pinkie and Silly, in so much as Cheese is somehow better at being and staying quiet than Pinkie, and the two like to just sit and work together sometimes, Cheese on songs and party ideas, and Silly on drawings when she’s not too tired.
Her Classmates;
Silly used to get on well with everyone she knew; she was friends with all the weird kids who would have otherwise been alone, and was nice to the mean kids as well. She was adored by the class, and the teachers, but that all changed when clinical depression reared it’s ugly head. After that, Silly isolated herself from others outside of school, and barely spoke to the friends she had in class. It was a gradual progression, and some didn’t notice it at first, but when they did they tried to get Silly to go see someone about it. She refused, and said she’d be okay, but she wasn’t, and her constantly down demeanor started to bring down the moods of her friends. Eventually, they all drifted away form her, especially after she moved schools the first time, because it’s difficult to stay positive when one of your friends has such a negative air around them all the time and doesn’t put in any effort to stay in touch. A few friends did try to keep contact after Silly moved schools, but Silly didn’t reach out to them back, and when she did reply to them or agree to meet, she was just constantly tired. Eventually, everyone dropped off, though they’d probably all be willing to be friends again if Silly reached out to them. As for everyone else, the ponies that have only met Silly when she’s been battling with depression, they mostly ignore her, and she ignores them in return. Secretly she kinda wishes from friends again, but it’s just too exhausting for her.
The Other Five;
Don’t want to spoil the story now, do I? You’ll find out in due course.
~~~~~

So yeah, Silly, the most sympathetic of the bunch. I was actually on the fence about whether or not to give her actual depression, or just have her be a bit of a downer, but I think this is better, because it explains better why she’s failing her classes. The only potential problem with this. Though, is that I don’t have depression, clinical or otherwise, so I don’t really know what it’s like, but I’m doing research and the like so hopefully I won’t butcher it.

You watch me butcher it now.

Ahem, anyway, Pinkie and Cheese is a pairing I always seem to default to; two party ponies? Hell yeah! And I know a lot of people go for this pairing, but I feel justified in going for it here because I needed a pony who could be an Element of Laughter stand-in, and Cheese is very much that. I know I could have gone with Party Favour? But I didn’t want to, so I went with this instead! Silly is also the only next gen in this verse I know for certain is going to have siblings; at least two of them. Everyone else? I haven’t really thought about.

That’s all I have to say on Silly for now. Hope you all like her!
