The material on the skythe look amazing, and I love how pale and crazy she looks. What kind of character was she?

The typical antihero/bad girl character that was rather popular during the 90s.
The daughter of a medieval nobleman who entered a pact with demons to avoid being burned as a witch and who, reluctantly, served the powers of hell from then on until she started an uprising, took the throne of hell for herself and wanted to vanquish all humankind.
Not a very nice person actually xD

I guess she then got stopped somehow? Or did she succeed in vanquishing the humankind?

It's been a very long time since i read the comics, but i think she never succeeded.
There were always several other forces who tried to stop her for different reasons ^^

I bet there was one reason that united them all in their quests of stopping her: everybody wants to live. Or at least to live on livable terms.

Thanks
The smoke actually was one of the easiest parts, just two simple smoke brushes in Photoshop, one in front and one behind the figure. And yet it's so effective and looks great

Definitely. Some well thought-out and subtle postwork can really elevate a render.
