My application for the VolSaga group.
Took me about a full 15 hours to work on it, mostly because of that fact I'm not used to SAI yet. AND I made a mistake midway and to practically redo the whole thing.... *sulk* But it was super fun drawing scales, I'm usually very bad with reptiles and so I had to use a few tutorials for SAI to do it right. *luves shiny scales*
BUT at last it's done. I hope I make it~

I already started a re-draw of Urai in version two... using some newly learned SAI skills. It might take a while to finish but when I'm done I'll update this app thing with the new pic. 8D

He's gone completely blind now, hence headshot. And his long ass hair got burnt off in a fire during one of his missions. Plus he's back to being a warrior now. So much changes, tried new scales. Not a lot of comments OTL.

-Still sings and plays music as a bard, but now only as a disguise to get to places, or when he's bored.
-Previous a traveling bard between his 'employment' by Sietqua army.

Talents:
Music
- Urai had a very wide pitch range, and a voice that carries well. Also, he can play many different instruments such as the flute, glass armonica, as well as pi-pa. He can be considered a musical genius, give him any instrument and he'll work it out in time.

War Craft
- Urai has yet to lose in a single game of chess, and he is keen on seeing the quickest and most effective route to complete his task in battlefields. In the past, he was also very proficient in archery and fencing. Underwater as well as on land. Apparently his cunning isn't limited to battlefields, but honestly, maybe it's better for him to not see everything in life as part of a war.
- Being blind doesn't mean he can't play chess. He can still hold a game as long as all of the opponents' moves are said out loud.

Water Magic
- Water manipulation is a technique of Urai's race, and he'd say that he is very good at it. At top condition, he can summon even a tidal wave from the ocean onto the shores. Due to circumstances, he doesn't seem to be able to manipulate more than a trickle of water now-a-days. However, he is still very knowledgeable about the subject and theories.

Personality:
Detached and Hesitant - Urai's default reaction to things and people he doesn't know or take interest in. He would remain a polite distance away and simply be a watcher of events, and run away at a moment's notice if anything seems to be heading downhill. Urai's secretly afraid of being abandoned in any way and form, and would much rather be the one to completely severe a relationship if doing otherwise means a painful and awkward ending. A simple measure to see how closely Urai thinks of someone is how informal he addresses that person.

Pacifism - After his retirement from the tribal army, Urai made a pact of sorts that he will only attack to defend, and only kill to eat. For various reasons he tries to avoid bloodshed, or just blood in general. If he's not involved in the conflict himself (which he often is), Urai would rather play the role of the mediator and tries to calm people down. Urai has a stash of candies and lollipops that he doesn't eat (he's actually not a fan of candy) that he would shove into the mouths of angry people to calm them down.
Though especially now that he has returned in the lines of duty, he doesn't hesitate to kill off witnesses to his job when secrecy is demanded. Urai is, however, extremely reluctant about it all.

Aquaphilia - And I don't meant the sexual meaning of that word, though I'm sure that also somewhat applies. Urai holds the ocean in high regards, as well as all other water sources. Unless he has no choice, or because something with even higher priority than water is in an emergency situation, Urai would rather bleed to death on the ground than get any blood in the water. Also, he would go out of his way to make sure everyone does the same around him. Urai also adores hotsprings, and despite not favoring land travel, would sometimes fumble for days in the wilderness trying to find one.

Food-lover - Easily placid with food, Urai has the randomest cravings for food at the randomest time. According to Urai, he eats '5 meals a day, and until 3/4 full'. But he's definitely being modest. Ask Urai, in any country except Lumeria, and he'll direct you to the best restaurants in town. And sometimes even to places that you'll never know sell food at all. Urai can detect if something's edible by a sort of glutton-instinct, but since he has a stomach of steel, he can consume most things inedible and harmful to others.

Honest and Blunt - Especially when it comes to feelings. Urai has no problem saying exactly what he thinks. In fact, this proves he likes you. All his 'favorite' people will be subjected to his tactless but probably well-intended comments on just about everything. If Urai loves you, he will say that directly, as many times as it takes to get it across. Then again, that also stands if he doesn't like you, he'll chase you down and ground pound you every time he remembers.

Devious/Idiot - Urai usually seems like an idiot, with his adorable '45 degree head tilt' and 'sad-leviathan eyes', it's easy for people to have their guard down around the half-smiling leviathan. But that's exactly what it is, a half-smile. While Urai's never the type to do well on paper tests, he is a very cunning strategist in the fields. Occasionally, the ex-warrior would let slip a devious smile promising of unfortunate things to come for whoever his victim is. Once he knows someone well enough and becomes comfortable with them, he'll stop addressing them formally and start to show exactly how evil devious he can be. If he bullies you, don't worry, it just means he likes you.

dark!Urai - After a bunch of RPs and crack, this persona was created. It greatly resembles Urai's personality during his years as a warrior. Basically, a sadistic prick. This side is probably Urai's 'real' personality had he not decide to retire from the ways of violence and become a bard, and occasionally pops out when something is done to Urai that either made him extremely sadistic or angry. dark!Urai is an obnoxious and annoying individual who never addresses anyone by their proper names, in stark contrast to normal Urai, and seems to solve all questions in life with senseless -and rather comical- violence.

Momma's boy - Raised by his single mother, Urai was steadily tempered since childhood to never be able to say 'no' to his mom. Even during his period of being a giant douche, Urai was still under the commands of his esteemed mother, who often send him on impossible missions to hunt for rare books due to her hobby. Ever since he was an infant, Urai's mother has been reading a huge amount of stories to her son, as well as making sure that he will respect the power of literature. Also, Urai's mother was the one that made and then taught him how to use most of the instruments that he plays.

History: Urai's birth place is a village that goes by the name of Sietqua, in Sol Bay with a few other leviathan and hippocampus communities. Urai grew up with his single mother, never knowing his father since the other is said to have died in battlefield before his birth. Born and raised as a member of the Leviathan race, warrior of the seas. Urai was trained to be a efficient soldier like many of his fellow clansmen. His talent at using magic and overall magical strength was a legs-up for what he needed to do. Urai grew up being either feared, praised, or isolated because of his power-induced confidence and pride, and eventually, he found himself living on nothing else except his own power in battle. Basically, little Urai was a stick in the mud who has too much ego for his own good.
Soon, his refusal in admitting his own limit and general egotistical inclinations landed him in a tough situation once in a sea battle. Which Urai thought he could handle with the summoning of a tidal wave. However, he breached his limit that he refused and he suffered the consequences.
Urai was said to have been 'honorably discharged' from the army afterwards, because of his excellent service. But the truth is that his constant usage of magic has exhausted his physical body so much not only can he no longer risk casting any more spells, his eye sight has started to deteriorate. With a devastating handicap for an archer-warrior such as himself, Urai resigned and secluded himself in his home by the shores.
After some years of pathetic self-pity and world-loathing, Urai suddenly emerged from his home one day and began his career as a bard. Singing songs of battles, and songs of deaths. Ballads of betrayal and promises of lost love he gathered from all over. He realized that he much rather roam the earth and sea with his music that he loves instead of moping over a life that he cannot return to.
Urai has no blood-related siblings, one adoptive hippocampus brother and a single mother. His mother was the best songstress of the tribe, hence Urai's refinement with music and singing ever since he was young. While Urai moved inland, his mother remains in their tribe as a wet nurse for other soldiers' children. Due to the fact that Urai's mother is always taking care of the village's children when their parents are out in battle, Urai became really good at handling children.
Currently Urai lives in a small house by the river that runs past Auric city.
Urai doesn't talk too much about how he came to lose his sight, but it most likely has to do with the death of his almost-fiancee and lover, Lycoris.
At the moment he is once again under the services of his tribe, Sietqua, as a soldier in exchange for his little brother Ronai to be out of the battlefields due to the Sietqua law that every household must have at least one male member in military service. It's only recently that he's outright closed his eyes, and shows signs of having actual troubles maneuvering around completely blind.

Likes:
-Water, the sea (any bodies of water, from hot springs to rivers, to even swamps)
-The color blue
-Blue eyes (though he won't be able to tell now)
-Strong people
-Cute, small critters (or critter like people)
-Warm, fluffy things
-Families, kids, communities

Dislikes:
-Blood (only because he actually has a trained, warrior part of him that makes him get a little too unrestrained when blood is shed)
-Height (phobia, but only limited to situations where he can't land safely or his body is entirely airborne)
-Ghosts, spirits, unexplainable horrors (he thinks ghosts of people he kill will haunt him)
-War, battles, warrior tribes (he's not outspoken about it, but he thinks it's really unfair that kids born in them have no choice but to fight)

Additional Info:
-He is 100% blind.
-While his tail remains perfectly unscarred and 'beautiful', Urai has started wearing clothes that covers the shredded back fins on his back after the sun spawn attack. He sees it as a shameful thing to show his scars, and with the amount he has accumulated, no wonder he's almost always covered now.
-Urai's tail is ridiculously strong, and according to Urai, it stores all the food that he consumed. Basically how 'thick' his tail is reflects on how 'healthy' or well fed he is.
-Urai has been told that the next time he uses magic will most-likely be his last.
-The shell on his strap holds his tribal sign, according to Urai. Apparently the soldiers from his tribe (as well as some neighboring tribes) have a tradition of carrying that around in case they died in battle and their body cannot be transported back home. When that soldier dies, either a comrade will bring the shell back to their loved ones, or if the loved ones do not need it (they may have other items in memories of the fallen soldier) the necklace will be taken apart and fellow soldiers of the same squad will wear the beads/shells in a symbolic gesture of 'carrying on'.
-The original shell necklace Urai had (the one with a suicide pill in the shell in case of capture) has been left in Colista's hand since before the sun spawn attack.
-The two sea blue crystal beads on his strap belonged to his previous lover and partner, Lycoris. The sky blue glass bead was something he bought before his eyes went blind because he thought the color looked like Colista's eyes. The current shell he has is just a random secondary marker shell the village sent him when he returned to service.
-Urai usually sleeps in a giant tub of water, he tends to have nightmares that keeps him up if he's not submerged.
-Do no, ever, eat anything Urai cooks. He can handle his own cooking but most other people will die. Even him just touching any process of the cooking will make the food inedible. He's a natural hazard. I'm serious.
-Despite lack of skills in the kitchen, he's good at reworking water routes around houses, fixing/building things, and managing money for the household. Yes, he can actually fix small hinges and stuff blind as long as he knows what it originally looked like. Also... he will try to rework your house's water-drainage system to be environmentally friendlier if you'd let him.
-Urai likes to go hot-spring hunting.
-It's by tribal tradition to carry their wealth with them in the form of gold and gems. And the decrease of the gold hoops and rings he wears should say a lot.
-Culture shock: Kissing on the lips means almost nothing to Urai (though he has learned a lot of 'in-lander' manners since he migrated). It's kisses on the forehead and cheeks that means something of 'love' in Urai's culture. Also, giving someone a small trinket such as a gold earring or ring is either a sign of heart-felt gratitude or proposal. Engagement is basically wearing two sides of the same shell, which is encased in gold after marriage.
-Low alcohol tolerance, but can sober up easily if he just throws up.
-By logic and cracked RP physics, Urai has his own gravitational pull. So everything that falls from trees and skies will land on him, and everything running around on land will also run into Urai. It's okay, he has a strong back.
