Well now I've done it--seeing the opportunity to blend Japanese language practice and fanworks, I've started a Hetalia comic! >>; Er....enjoy? Page two coming very soon (you know, right after I post this one.)

In this lesson we start with a single word:

Sensei = Teacher

The human forms for Japan, Germany and North Italy are from the anime/manga Axis Powers Hetalia, and belong to Hidekaz Himeruya.

A really cute way to learn Japanese. ^.^
...I gotta check out this Hetalia. Everyone's talking about it on dA, and I have no idea what it is. xDD All I know is that it's about personified countries. (And that there's no Australia. )

Thanks! A good way for ME to practice my Japanese, too!

Hetalia's really cute and amusing. The anime is on Youtube in English subs, and the episodes are only five minutes long each, so checking it out is pretty easy. The personified countries are interacting in certain ways to reflect historical events (example: the Revolutionary War is England and America in a fight; before that America lived in England's house as his little brother figure.)

It's a really fun way to learn some history, as the author puts notes in the manga (and some were added on splash screens in the anime) explaining the historical significance behind certain actions. (Example: Russia the character loves water faucets because Russian soldiers' favorite souvenirs from the battlefield were in fact water faucets! )

Also...there IS an Australia. He was just introduced very recently!

I'll check it out, then! Thanks!
Haha! Really? We weren't forgotten!!! What's the character of Australia like?

I haven't actually seen him yet, but I hear he has fuzzy eyebrows similar to England and Sealand. Sorry I can't tell you more, like I said he's very new!

Fuzzy eyebrows?

Threshie In reply to Moonfire-Thornessa [2009-07-05 12:03:06 +0000 UTC]

XD; Yeah--it seems England gets the biggest eyebrows, then every country that is "related" to him somehow also gets fuzzy eyebrows as a way to show that they're related. I also hear that Australia has a small animal friend, as with Canada (polar bear cub) and Egypt (Anubis-like hound dog). I believe Australia's is a koala bear, but I could be wrong.

After a lot of searching, I found him! He does have koala pets, and.... those eyebrows.....

There's only a chibi reference so far, though. It was posted on the creator's blog.

Haha, it's so stereotypical, but I love it. ^.^

*squee* Aww, I think he's cute! All of the characters' designs are based on stereotypes, but also on statistics; for example, the heights of most of the characters are actually the average height of a person in that country as taken from a census.

Thanks for linking me that pic, I have been hunting all over and hadn't found it... XD;

Ha, that's clever!
Everyone I've seen giving him unofficial colours has given him blonde hair, too- totally an Bondi surfie or Steve Irwin stereotype. xD
And yes, he is cute.

No problem!

Germany's very soldierly and follows orders really well! He takes things seriously, especially when he has a superior (I'm figuring he thinks of Japan as his "superior" in "Japanese language training", LOL.)

ToysAndChocolate In reply to Threshie [2009-06-29 00:01:07 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it's just I figure him doing more others than following them XD; I mean, he have toons of comics trying to teach Japan and Italy to get better at training LOL
