Description
This reimagines they are insect-like creatures that anyone would mistake for giant insects with many tiny eyes like starfish. But they evolved from intelligent slime mold. Each individual is a giant colony of slime molds, like how Earth creatures are a bunch of organs working together. The hive communicates in the same way slime mold does, and they reproduce by injecting a giant slime mold "fetus" into the host, the mold automatically takes over and copies and eats the host's insides and DNA, before bursting out the chest with a similar shape to the host.
