Flightless birds are always an inevitability. True, humans have killed a large number of them before the advent of modern science (moa, elephant bird, dodo, great auk to name a few), but they always pop up again. The days of giant carnivorous birds is long gone, but the smaller ones, that is a different story! The largest of the carnivorous flightless birds is the mighty Groundhawk, a beast slightly smaller than the modern Rhea. While this is still quite massive for a bird, bear in mind that the predatory birds of ages past were significantly larger than an ostrich, so perspective. The Groundhawk uses its strong legs to run at high speed through the forests of North America. its sharp beak is perfect for tearing apart its prey, such as rabbits and squirrels. Larger prey like beavers and Rat-Peccaries are often kicked to death with its strong legs, while being torn at from the hooked beak. They are relatively smart for a bird, and sometimes they will even coordinate an attack on prey as large as a badger or Collared Wolfrat. They aren't as bright as crows or parrots, but they're certainly much brighter than those dumbasses that are owls and emus. While they sound dreadful, like most animals, they are rather panicky at larger beasts (like humans or D'korrans), mostly because they are on the menu; It seems that when they aren't hunting gigantic rats, The Giant Chriops and Caped Wolfrat have a taste for poultry. Which is fair, because the damn birds are scrumptious!
