So, I saw an animation on December 29th of 2016, known simply as Buta... and it was one of the best animations I've seen in a long time, and I recommend you watch it, you won't regret it.

It initially came to the the public at Anime Mirai 2012, but thankfully, someone has released and translated it into English for viewers like you or me. Just search for it, and you'll be on your way.

Of the characters named in the show, this young fox boy is not. However, after looking up info on this little anime, I found out that his name is Kitsune... which is just Japanese for "fox."

He's a young boy kidnapped by a bunch of pirates before he is reluctantly rescued by Buta, joining him on his journey, hoping to find his way back home.
