Streets identified by numbers can be found by many as easily as those identified by names. In Chicago, once you get south of Roosevelt Road, once known as 12th Street, the east/west streets are identified by number (some also have names - 39th Street is also known as Pershing Road). And who can remember Route 66?Β The initial inspiration for U2's hit, "Where the Streets Have No Names" supposedly came from their visit to the town of Milton Keynes where the streets were numbered instead of named. The band got lost while trying to get to the MK Bowl. I guess they had problems with following numbers (innumeracy, perhaps?)
