Description
This is Moth, a childlike folk figure from a project I'm working on. She's not a goddess, more like a Paul Bunyan / Santa Clause character. In the mythology, she causes the leaves to turn colors in fall. It's christmastime, so I thought I should do something pastoral, but I'm still hung up on autumn.

So very pretty D: I love the grapes, I didn't think those would work so well. Very arresting!

I found out the secret to dusty grapes is the airbrush. I never would have considered using that thing seriously until now.

Airbrush! *hiss*
Actually I've recently come to realize that the airbrush isn't all that bad :\ Just needs to be used in moderation.

thanks! I have a book of still lifes and the grapes always look so delicious and dusty, but whenever I tried them they came out looking too shiny...I finally figured out to use the airbrush instead of my normal brush

oh man you're so fantastic. The colors and the whites of her eyes look so glassy and perfect. She looks out of breath, has she been flying a lot?

Wow, this is beautiful. May I ask, how long did this take, and what kind of brush did you use to paint it?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
thundercake In reply to madcarrot [2009-12-21 18:27:35 +0000 UTC]
it took about 5 hours and I used 46 spatter and an airbrush for the grapes

madcarrot In reply to thundercake [2009-12-21 20:34:43 +0000 UTC]
Ooh, just a spatter brush. Low opacity for blending?
I'm just trying to figure out how to get a nicer painty look for my work, rather than what looks either too blended, or too sloppy, that's why I ask.

thundercake In reply to madcarrot [2009-12-21 21:03:51 +0000 UTC]
actualy it's not a spatter brush, that's just the name of it I set it to full dynamic opacity and blend with the eyedropper tool.

There's always been something really attractive to me about leaves + hair. I don't know what it is. I love the texture of her clothing too.
Also, autumn = best time of year for sure

I can't place it, but there's something about her that seems to live and breathe. I really, really, really love this one. Not sure why. Something in her face? In the brushstrokes? Very lovely.

Great job! (Also, squee Christmas is coming! pic not related, but squee anyways!)
