My friend Autumn (~carcadann ) had some great advice when I mentioned I wanted to put a rat in my picture. She said "Don't do a rat, because then people think "ewww, disease." Do a mouse, so people think "awww, disease!"
This took 3 days and was one of the most complex paintings I've ever attempted. I almost never do interiors so I thought I would try to redo [link] - the character in that painting was the basis for Emme Anders, my plot device from Thorns.

I feel compelled to give one little crit, I had a second where I didn't get that the bars on her face and the surroundings were caused by windows? Cuz the lighting is not as natural as it could be. Either more yellow for daytime or more pink for dusk might make that clearer, but here it just looks somewhat patchwork. Or maybe some dust motes or something to show there is light around, since it looks like that'd be a dusty place.

Mr. Lurker looks very dark and subtle on my screen, perhaps he shows up better on others D: That's the problem with digital art.

I would say this is the most awesome thing in the universe, but I'm not going to because of your recent journal entry and the comments that fallowed.
The only thing is that it took me a second to realize that there were shadows of a window or bars, I thought they were stripes.

the pose looks really believable (and comfy) and the lighting is wonderful, very atmospheric, and funnily enough when i saw the thumbnail i thought "this reminds me of fall/autumn " and then your friend's name is Autumn

This made me feel all cozy and comfy, even after I saw the 'dark and foreboding' figure in the background. It makes me want to go and hide somewhere with a book. And the mouse is so cute and round! Also: great improvement from last year!
