I'll have you know that I basically had to sell my soul for this filly. And I love her for it.
January 12th,
Canaan was elderly now, on the cusp of retirement from breeding and extremely sway-backed after a lifetime of foals. But oh, how she loved motherhood.
She was an old hat at this now and the birth was simple and easy. From start to finish, it barely lasted an hour. The filly was dark as night as she stumbled to her feet, Canaan whuffling over her gently and cleaning her dry.
Lia, draped over the edge of the foaling stall, practically vibrated with glee.
"She looks just like him!" she whispered. She wanted to shout, to cheer, to yodel from the rooftops that Hey, look, we have a Steel Force baby! But she kept her voice low so as to not disturb the mare and foal. Jackson just patted her hand, wedding ring flashing in the low barn light. He, too, was secretely pleased, however, for racing people were a superstitious folk; if she looked like her sire, perhaps she would run like him, too.
Eventually, they named her Mimicry.
