This took me awhile but it's worth it
. Chara was always portrayed as the villain but the people who played the game (genocide route) was the one who chose to kill meaning chara is innocentpheonix wright is by capcom and chara is by toby fox

Maybe Chara didn't make in-game kills,but can you explain final strike,that erased the world(and everyone in it) whatever we choosed?

I think its kinda hinted that flowey killed whoever evacuated (minus maybe the amalgamates as their unkillable and flowey can go underground so could possibly get under the door and into the True Lab where they were created to begin with)
And it is true when after getting passed sans and going to asgore and getting to flowey and when flowey starts begging for their life that chara hesitates. The player is the one that has to push the button to finish the convo, and its in this moment during that hesitation of frisk/chara that the player gets one final chance to reset should they choose.
If the player hits the button, my theory/headcannon is chara brutally murdering flowey and continuing the slashing despite flowey already being dead is chara basically snapping. Thats the breaking point and accepting finally that they never had a choice at all, and so, when the game ends chara erases the world cuz there literally IS nothing left. (Though also maybe chara gave in to their hate too and getting angry at asriel for technically betraying chara when azzy ruined charas plan to free the monsters early.) The world is gone besides the scenery but there are no more monsters to even kill anyways. Going back is pointless
But also, in my headcannon chara taking away the PLAYERS choice this time by needing frisks soul in order to bring back the game is chara getting their revenge at the player for forcing chara/frisk to kill everyone. (Plus they might also be a bit peeved at the player if you do say you are βabove consequences.β So chara decides to corrupt the game and take away the players ability to get the True Pacifist Ending unless they delete all their files and basically redownload it cuz why SHOULD the player deserve to still get the happy ending after their mass murder spree and then acting like they dont care for any repurcussions??? So in a way chara takes the role of what sans tried to do only they decide theyβll play by the players rules so to speak but take away their choice so no matter what the monsters end up βdeadβ anyways even on the surface. To show the player we are indeed, NOT, above consequence.
