It was an exciting day in the Pride Lands because not only was King Kion and his family coming for a visit but this was Shani’s first time visiting the Pride Lands and it was going to be her first time meeting her grandmother, Nala. Nala herself wished that Simba was here with her now to meet their newest grand cub together but alas… Simba had been gone for over 3 full seasons now and he would be watching over his family from the stars with his own parents by his side again, Mufasa and Sarabi. Nala herself had been declining in health over this past year and she wondered how much longer before she too passed on muscles were weak her vision was going bad because Fikiri, Makini’s mother had confirmed with Nala that she had something called eye fog (cataracts) and Nala’s vision was always clouded these days and she didn’t have her sharp vision like when she used to to see very far away. Her family understood this perfectly well and had to really get up close when interacting with the old queen. It was about at this same time that Nala was asleep within Pride Rock that she herd voices coming from outside the den.

Nala: "Whos there?" Nala replies in a very soft spoken voice. You could describe her voice as quiet or a whisper.

Zuri: "It's me your majesty. Your grandson, Shujaa has come to visit and he's brought a special friend with him."

Nala: "Shujaa, my boy is that you?" Nala squints trying to look at her grandson

Shujaa: "Yes grandmother it's me." Shujaa begins to approach his grandmother so Nala can get a better look at him.

Nala: "Ah... There you are! Now... Zuri here tells me you have brought a "special friend" along with you.

Shujaa: "Grandmother Nala, I'd like you to meet someone who's very close to my heart. This is my girlfriend, Maua." Maua stepped forward as she appeared clear in Nala's line of eyesight.

Maua: "It's an incredible honor to meet you at last, Queen Nala. I've heard so many stories about you and King Simba both. I have to say that my favorite is when Scar and his hyena followers where overthrown by you both." This earned a light chuckle from Nala.

Nala: "Thank you, Maua. You flatter me but that was a lifetime ago.”

Maua: “Still they’re very interesting stories your majesty. Your son, Kion is a very good storyteller.”

Nala: “Well… Kion has always had a thrill for adventure and he did always look up to his father for guidance even at a very young age.”

Shujaa: “So… Grandmother I was wondering… We wanted to ask you something very important.”

Nala: “What is it mpenzi?”

Shujaa: “Well we where wondering if we can have your blessing?”

Nala: “I would be honoured, my boy. You have a got a good one right here I like her already and you both should be very lucky to have each other in your lives. You both have my blessing.”

Shujaa: “Thank you, Grandma. You have no idea how much this really means to us.”

Nala looked at her grandson and his girlfriend very closely as they nuzzled each other and as she watched past visions of cubs flashed into her mind, Kiara and Kovu playing tag in the tall grass, Kion and Tiifu nuzzled up and watching the sunset from the watering hole and Simba and herself during the time they went to the Elephant Graveyard where they had a horrific encounter with the hyenas. Nala wondered really how much time she had left on earth and wondered when Simba would return to get here. When so many of her own friends where already in the stars now. Timon, Pumbaa, Rafiki, Zazu… They where all gone. This kingdom really did belong to Kiara and Kovu now and now the young generation now was growing up into teenagers and falling in love. Nala was old and tired she didn’t know how much time she had left for sure but weather it was weeks, months or even more than a couple of years she was going to enjoy every moment and treasure each interaction with her family members until it was her time to join the stars and watch over to the ones she will one day leave behind.
