Description

There are fewer than 500 Ethiopian Wolves left, they are critically endangered. Ethiopian wolves are being taken out in huge numbers due to habitat loss, poaching, and mainly Rabies. Rabies is taking such a toll that vaccinating the remaining population is seeming to be the only option left! Timber and Grey wolves, commonly and intensively fussed about for being endangered and needing our protection, are of 'least concern' as far as conservation goes. People seem to pay attention to wolves, and not those species who need our attention and help.

I am a lover of all animals, including wolves, but there are species out there that are in ACTUAL need of our help, and plenty of people would rather cry about the timber wolf while Ethiopian wolves, amur leopards, and other disappear.

These are not my photos, I just take credit for the manipulation and editing. If you use it, please credit me, I worked hard on this so please respect that!

megadracosaurus ,  Although it is often called Simien fox or red fox, DNA phylogenetic analysis revealed that the Ethiopian wolf is more closely related to the grey wolf....(www.ethiopianwolf.org/taxonomy… )... Just saying.

It's in Africa, therefore we are hopeless in saving it. D: The dire wolf is gone, several others gone too, we might lose all of the animals and only left with each other.

Very good description. Wolfaboos only make matters worse when it comes to conservation.

The dire wolf is a little before our time. I don't think down on someone who loves the grey and timber wolves, but their love can be misplaced and cause more harm. Don't get me wrong, hunters can be a problem too, ive heard in some areas where grey wolves came back they are now spiraling down again thanks to overhunting. Everyone just needs to work together, without the animals, there is no us.

True. Wolfaboos are just like a fanbase full of morons. It's either poachers illegally killing ankmals, or lazy regulators not doing their job.

I am appalled by hunting competitions, as a hunter myself I promote responsibility and respect, and seeing competitions like coyote competitions, where hundreds and hundreds of a specific species (not always coyotes) are culled in a festival of sorts usually supported by local farmers.

I thought I was alone when it comes to those types of hunting. I was didn't want to say that hunting competitions is atrocious because I was afraid of getting an answer such as "Oh, you just only like cute animals. Therefore you're just a hypocrite." I agree with everything you said.
Those widespread species like coyotes and rabbits aren't going extinct anytime soon. Hunting events for those I am okay with. I support hunting for population control, making sure animals maintain their fear of humans, and occasional hunting while using the animals parts.

I am not ok with it, because I am seeing a dangerous lack of humane-ness, respect, and responsibility attached to them, I am also seeing them being used irresponsibly in areas where the population of the target animal was already down. Not to mention they are simply skinned and thrown away usually.

Agreed. We don't live in the 1800s anymore, it's unnecessary to keep doing such obsolete practices. We have cotton, fabric, and yarn. It's sickening that people treat them like garbage. At least can they be respected that they are a piece of wildlife.

Although I agree with the point of this art, I would like to point out that the Ethopian wolf is actully closer related to jackals then real wolves. XD

Hear, hear! I love grey wolves, but at least in Northern America they're not endangered (I'm not sure about specific countries in Europe though, considering they've gone extinct in the vast majority).

There are definitely animals out there that deserve more of a focus, but again it's usually the "popular animals" such as tigers and orangutans, when there are many, many more out there in imminent danger of extinction. It's very sad

Here in Germany the grey wolf seems to own a high position because everyone thinks they are endangered. Well, in Germany once the grey wolf went extinct because poachers killed them all, which was a mistake, but because of our history, the government forbids it to even obtain legal wolf pelts from the US or Canada which is completely bullshit in my opinion.
What I mean is, that people need to look closer into detail before making a drama or even create laws which are not needed.

Gray wolves are starting to OVERPOPULATE! Awesome people would hunt to control their god damn population.
But you won't understand.

In some areas wolves are overpopulated. I don't believe that is a good reason to hunt something, but it helps keep their population healthy, as well as the population of other species in their environment. (and pets! Hungry wolves and coyotes eat pets!). Im really touchy about predator hunting, but as long as it is responsible, and not a rare or endangered animal, then Im alright with it.
