Description
OKay so this is my first time ever doing one of these cause my art is balls LOL;;;;Some things I need to mention that I didn't have room for in the boxes:
I NEVER USE THE ERASER !!! If there is something I don't like, like I said I literally just paint over it
I PAINT ON ONE LAYER -- If I am truly torn in how to draw something, I will do a separate layer, draw, compare results, then merge or delete new layer
I usually only use 1 - 3 brushes when painting, one textured brush of some sort ( should prolly have pen pressure sensitivity ), one brush for blocking in flat color, and then if I need some other effect ( rarely ), another brush
I work from the face out, and the face layer up, meaning face -> clothes -> hair -> hair accessories -> anything left that is of important detail
if there are any questions I will do my best to answer lol
please let me know if this was helpful!

This was useful!
I use too many layers and it's no good. Keeping it simple like this seems to be a much better approach for this more painterly style!
Thanks for the insight~

I really am jealous of these types of shading talents. I just can´t fgure out how to do it AND I KNOW that it will come with practice. im just a bit of a I-WANT-NOW type of person XD

AHHH i just wanna tell you how much i admire your art ;o; You're amazing and i aspire to paint as well as you someday :') This was very helpful and i love seeing the process too. I want to have a painterly look to my art where you could see that it isn't too smooth or faded but i also want to have softness do you have any pointers on how to have a good balance of the two? Awesome work though *U*

Awww thanks! That is so sweet to hear ; u;
Hmm pointers.... I would say your light source is gonna determine a lot of what is hard and soft. A good painting ( imo ) has both. Something too soft just looks like a blurry mess, but something too hard looks mechanical and artificial.
I'm not a pro by any means but it's kind of like thinking about what would cast a hard shadow vs a soft one? think of a flashlight shining at your hand at an angle.
A lot of my lines in shadows aren't accurate but it's about finding a balance.... ahhh i dabbled on ;;;;;;;

Alright! that's definitely helpful, i didn't think too much about the intensity of light/shade causing a hard shadow
And yup i agree with the too soft/too hard imbalance. Thanks for putting up with my questions haha! ouo'

well if it is a soft light, the shadows will be soft, and if it's a hard light, harder shadows, there are a lot of variables lol;;; i'm still learning!
I love questions! I think I answer them horribly tho lolol

this is so marvelous!
Do you mainly change the pressure setting on the brush to make so smooth?

So it's a mix of changing opacity + changing value. If I'm working in a dark area, wanting to go lighter, I change the opacity to pretty low and use a light-medium grey. I hope that answers your question?

This definitely is helpful!
I had the suspicion that you worked in just one layer; idk why - just got that kind of feel from your work.
I usually don't like using the eraser because it feels... less organic than if I paint over things. I can't help it if I do flat colouring that has no shading, but I may try out your process on my next "serious" attempt at a digital painting.
Thank you for sharing this!
