I just feel that kind of question is kind of meaningless. (I mean no offense too) Many people may like a same character or pairing but we can have complete different reasons. The reason why someone likes a character may be the very reason another one hates the same one. Isn't that so?
So I can never understand why this kind of question is asked. For example, if I ask someone "Why do you like Beast Boy" the answer can be "because he's cute/adorable/awesome, etc" but does that mean anything to me? I do not think so, cannot understand and feel the same way about him, so why bother ask. The reason why others like or hate a character/pairing/show etc has nothing to do with me and I will not be influenced.
But I admit that I HATE to be asked a question like this, and don't see why this needs to have something to do with the original comic. Maybe it's like this in America, but never in Chinese and Japanese fandoms. Try Tenipuri fandom in which you can see anyone X anyone. Who would ask others for reasons? And why do crossover couples even exist? Umm.

bro, you are taking this way too seriously. i'm know that people asking you passive-aggressively to defend your ships and favorite characters gets annoying, but as i said, i'm NOT asking you to defend it. you could say "i don't know, i just do!" and i would say "that's fine 
but some people DO like explaining--in grandiose detail--about why they like a character or ship. some people get very passionate about it, in fact. and other people find that stuff interesting to read. so that's why some people ask.
it's not always an attack. and if you think the answer is pointless or none of someone's business, just say that. if they persist in questioning you, THEN you may get angry about them asking.
and i didn't answer the question in your first comment about "why do you need a reason?" because i DON'T think you need a reason. i'm not desperately looking for some divine sign or part in the comic. i was just wondering if people like it just because they DO, or if there WAS a reason. "no reason" can be a reason. i was just. asking.

I mean, I do know you, and maybe you know me. But to me, the relationship isn't enough for personal questions.
Once when I was on bussiness trip, someone asked "Why do you want to work in this realm?" And at that time the first thought came to me is "Why on earth should I tell you?" The question and answer are no longer important here.

So, it's not even related to the purpose of your question. I believe people from a different culture who made the mistakes I listed don't mean to offend others, but it can still lead to some unpleasant feelings and reactions. Isn't that so?

Look, I didn't say your question is an attack. I hate it because I think it's personal. Maybe you don't think so but I do.
Since we started to learn English, we have been taught that westerners pay much attention to privacy and there are many things we should not ask such as age, income, marriage, etc because it would be considered impolite. Also, we should not say "where are you going?" "What are you going to do?" and things like that or the answer may be "None of your bussiness".
For me, love, like, hate, such emotions (even it's about characters) are very personal and I don't like to be asked about it. That's why I feel unhappy about it.
