You know? I'm still stunned by having played The Last of Us Part II.

Since you came for the pic, you can enjoy it as long as you want. In that game there are not enough times to chill barefoot in a living room without the possibility of being hunted.

So...Part II. Looking back, Part One was an incredibly well-paced game. One that could evoke strong emotions, and contrasting feelings in many different players. I still remember quite well the great confusion in my head when the title credits rolled. I felt empty but hopeful. I knew something horrible had just happened, that there were gonna be consequences...but that was the future (many years, in fact).
I even know some people who, in the end just thought: "I don't care if Joel did that, that world is a shit show anyway".
I kind of agree with that.

And then came Part II.
I'm still stunned because I got what they were going for. Using the old-timey strategy of showing an event from many different perspectives (as old as time, or as Rashomon anyway). A hit piece about how we can have a completely wrong take on something we know little to nothing about.
Yet, I think the execution was not completely on point. Without entering in spoiler territory...maybe a different narrative structure, changing characters from chapter to chapter, and linking the two macro narrative chapters together would have saved many gamers a few headaches.
I must add that I loved the kind of gameplay they were going for. Like a visceral stealth action.
That said, when I finished the game I felt fatigued by a very very long unnecessary game. And empty inside.
I felt like that was the end of this kind of linear millionaire-budgeted game.

So, mostly a win for the storytellers, but maybe something different could have happened.
