The tiger walked through the city gates in a daze. The noise of travelers entering into Massilia, the trees whipping by his face as he ran, it was all a blur. He ran blindly, not minding the branches and thistles tearing his fur and paw pads. The sound of his paws crunching through the snow formed a rhythm and the tiger let it sink into his bones. Maybe if he just kept running, everything would disappear. His troubles, his worries, his responsibilities. Finally, he came to a stop in a quiet clearing. Silence. Nothing but the wind blowing through his grey fur and the beating of his own heart.

The hellish nightmare had started yesterday. After the Hunter's victory was on the brim of overpowering the Empires, the one cat who Thanatos could rely on had left him. Left him all alone. Left him without saying a word, not even a simple goodbye. The humans spoke of Rome, said they had sent him there.

The tiger let out a sigh, his tail drooping and ears flattening against his skull. He let a single word escape his muzzle, "Scaeden." The sound dissipated, gone, absorbed into the snow. It was almost as if in speaking the word, something broke inside of him. The game had changed. Someone would pay for all of his pain, for everything they had taken from him. The next time he got his claws on an Empire cat, it wouldn't be pretty. He wasn't Thanatos the benevolent Silver anymore. That cat was gone. Now he was Thanatos the Black Hunter, the Avenger. With a hardened expression, he turned his back, leaving the pain and heartache buried there, and slowly began his journey back to the city.
