This is so good! I don't comment nearly enough, but I am so impressed with your illustrations! I can't believe you are so new to digital art and making these kinds of pieces. They are stunning. One layer for every feathers is a bit tedious, and can sometimes make the image feel a bit 'stiff.' But in this case it just makes for a very nice, clear end result. Also lovely choice of species. I've seen this one once before, they're so pretty! How did you paint the branch he's on? Did you paint every needle one by one?

Thank you very much and sorry for the delay of the answer! Yes finally a layer by feather does not suit me too much, it is not natural enough. I am still in full test!

For the needles, I took a round brush with a dynamic shape and made a needle stroke. I then ironed the needles with a darker color for the shadows and lighter for the light. Thank you for your comment, I am a big fan of your art!

Thank you very much ! It was very long for the feather, I did one layer for one feather. I don't know if it is the better way, it's too much regular, not natural enough. But it's easier to shade the feather below. I'm still searching a good workflow ^^ For the branch, I just do one that I duplicate and blur one. For the needles, I took a round brush with dynamic shape according to stylus pressure to do the fine tips easier.

That’s very interesting! The details here are very impressive!

I rarely paint digitally because it always takes so long. Every drawing is a new experiment for me. I like painting feathers now, but I need a better way to draw fur and backgrounds. So I completely understand that you want to find a timesaving technique. Maybe I should start watching more YouTube tutorials, like some other people suggested.

I think that watching tutorials on youtube can help us and also motivate us, but what makes us progress the most is practice again and again ^^

You’re absolutely right! The problem is mostly a lack of time and motivation in my case, because of school and work. So don’t be like me and don’t stop drawing for a long time if that’s possible.

You just started your artistic journey and I hope it will be a successful one for you! You have a lot of potential!
