Description
I am back, mates! At least semi...I am still working on an assignment but I am soon done with it so good stuff! So yeah, have a pic from the Vendel- (ca 550-793 AD) or Viking era (793-1042). This shows a king or a chiefstan's funeral. Usually funerals in Scandinavia during these time eras were made by either having the dead one being burried under a hill or having his or her corpse burned on a long ship. Usually the dead ones were buried with their belongings which they would need as they entered Valhalla.
So yeah...fiery stuff.

In all seriousness though, it'sΒ a funeral. Of course you'll have to cremate the dead body on a long ship in the sea. That's the only way...or at least the most badass way.

It's practically a cliche to burn heroic characters. It's been used in Doctor Who as well.
I'd prefear to stick with the original though...having one's corpse burned on a long ship in the middle of the sea.

Beowulf is after all supposed to take place in modern day Denmark and Scania. I myself have read the original story.

Valhalla is the paradise of norse mythology. It's the home realm of the gods and where all brave warriors enter who have sacrificed themselves in combat. Those who have missed out on such a chance enter Hel, hell.

Pretty much. Where the fallen warriors are reunited with his/her brothers and sisters to feast, drink mead andΒ eat the flesh of SΓ¦hrΓmnir, the eternal boar who ressurects the day after slaughter time and time again.

This great warrior bravely fell in battle and is worthy of joining the warriors of valhalla and rejoicing with his kin there till the days of ragnarok.
