Can't believe I haven't made anything about this subject before...

Snapphanes were rebellious farmers, peasants and village folk in Scania around the time between 1658 and 1721. They usually supported the Danes during their invasions of the Southern Swedish provinces, Scania, Halland and Blekinge, and faught in a type of guerilla warfare style against the Swedish army. They are most famous for their efforts during the Scanian War (1675-1679). The Word "Snapphane" actually originates from the german Word "Schnappen" which means robbing, plundering or raiding. When Scanian exiled peasants were organized by the Danish king into bands that fought the Swedes with guerrilla methods, they were called snapphanes too. The Swedish army usually faught down the snapphanes with cruel brutality. Usually a captured snapphane would have his body impaled and shown to the locals as an act of intimidation. The snapphanes were obviously however something out of a big problem to deal with and snapphane rebellions would continue well up untill the times of the Great Northern War (1700-1721).
