from the outset, the only representation of this creature I have seen is its iteration within the shin megami tensei: persona series (persona 5) that being said their resemblance lends it a familiarity.

ramnle aside the use of colour tones creates a pleasant and effective contrast between foreground and background the range between the two colour sets is fairly narrow and this lends to the illusion (unless intentional) of the distance being minor with kelpie being the divider between the two, the level of blending present throughout this work is well placed to reflect the idea of a far right side elevated light source, although and this is a minor detail in the scheme of the image but does offset the impact is the lighting on the foreleg appears out of place in this angle as though the body is occluding light as It naturally would (this may well be a trick of the eye as the positioning of the body does not betray its orientation in regards to the aforementioned light source)

the line work is solid if a little heavy in places such as along the back or where the leg meets the torso creating a minor blemish creating the idea that the leg bulges from the ribcage area rather than the shoulder

I apologise if this seems as though I have a problem with the piece its undeniably amazingΒ
small refinements in linework may be necessary, I recommend you angle the marker as you draw curves to keep the hand central to the "middle" (I try to think of individual curves as part of round shapes such as an ellipses) this should help maintain line thickness

keep up the goodworkΒ

Wow, thanks for your advice, your comment is very useful!
The anatomy was not exactly solid, I've just made the line instantly without building volumes - it's good you've pointed at problems with the leg.
I meant the lightsource to be somewhere above and farther from us than the kelpie - maybe some light spots are a little random, you're right... It's good that foreground and background look separated, I did try to do so by making the kelpie and nearest seaweed brighter and the background more green and blurred.
And thanks for advice about coloring with markers, I'm still learning the trick. Will try to keep it in mind next time.

that's no problem, I was worried I would come across as rude but the detailing is beautiful and I'm pretty sure others said so aleady
I'm just super nitpicky though I'm glad to be of help, I know the techniques that do help I'm just abysmal at following my own advice

It's good to have some advice along with hearing about general impression (but, knowing that you still find the work rather beautiful than not helps to feel easier when reading the critique )

I'm just terrible at structuring so it sometimes takes an extra pass through it, I honestly can't be critical without personal tastes so I always compliment the piece

Thanks! I think the paper helps too - it makes them brighter than standard paper, the red looks really intense.

Intriguing and unique colour scheme and you even got the leg curl right.
Sure, the face looks like he's trying too hard to hold a fart but still, I like it.

Wow! I love the fire effects, and the way the seaweed tangles around him/her!

It's rather seaweed, since kelpies live underwater... But I like the fire association!

The fire-like back crest and fish tail provide an interesting contrast to the coloration of the rest of the picture and also how it's a sea creature underwater.

I tried to explore light green/dark red contrast, I think red makes it look more dangerous... It's good to know that it draws attention.

BTW, I meant this to be seaweed, not its tail... but now I see that it can be interpreted this way too

I hella like how you managed to capture the not-so-nice nature of kelpie through shades of red and giving it a dragon-like look. It's a beautiful creature, but it's better to not get too close to it.
