Description oh my god this is HORRIBLE. somanymistakes. oh well. learning exercises are FUN!

this was mostly referenced from a walk cycle by Richard Williams. and obsessively following my cats around. think I might've freaked them out a little... but they got revenge by sitting on my frames as I worked. last time I animate on the floor.

yep. I'll scrap this when I do one better. ..;;

Nice, it probably didnt take too many frames, (I'm guessing), but for how quick it is, it is nice and smooth. The lines are nicely drawn as well.

there are some things you could do better...

i don't like the tail. it's in the most extrem pose on the same drawing where you have the most extrem turn on the body... instead of doing that try to get some overlap into the tail... so the tip of the tail drags after the ass...

it looks like you have used the same head on every drawing and then just moved it a littel bit up and down.. i think it could be more interesting to mybe also turn the head from side to side... and maybe your movement is a little bit to extrem..

and then mind the volume...

i hope i haven't been totally unfair... just take it with a smile and do it again.. that's how to get better...

what program did you use to make this animation? i've been trying to find the right one but i ust haven't been able to find one.

Animation Shop 3. It comes with Paint Shop Pro 7 I believe. o.O

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Streaky In reply to tigrin [2005-09-11 01:10:10 +0000 UTC]

yes but how exactly did you do the animation. i've tried and it just copies the first layer and never changes.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tigrin In reply to Streaky [2005-09-11 03:41:49 +0000 UTC]

I did all the frames on separate sheets of paper, scanned them in, aligned them using layers in Paint Shop Pro, then copied every layer into Animation Shop and added it as a new frame. but that's my super complicated way of putting together animations on the computer and thus why I don't do a lot of it right now.

Streaky In reply to tigrin [2005-09-12 14:57:18 +0000 UTC]

lol that is pretty complicated and unfortunately i don't have a scanner or else i would try it. but thank you anyways for the help .

AAAAAAAAAAAAAH! *runs away*
I REALLY like this animation, but I *did run away* because I have/had to animate a tiger at my animation art school, and hated it. He did not walk, like this, he was sneaking, prepared to attack, and it was so hard to do. I didn't even finished it. 17 picture to make one step, 17 to make the second so it can move properly...Man, that's tough!!!

ps.: I've asked this many times now from several peoples...Which program did you use to make the animation? I cannot find a good one...

Paint Shop Pro 7 to prepare the frames and Animation Shop 3 to put it together as an animation.

Despite some little jerks, it's not horrible like you say. I like it-- it actually looks like a cat's movement rather than just generic quadruped animation. The main little jerks I see are in the front legs; the hind leg animation is wonderfully smooth, at least to my eyes. Good job with the accompanying body rotation and head movement.

Cute. It looks like it's bopping to music I do think the head has a little to much movement for a cat, they usually keep their head pretty steady I've noticed. I really like the hip and shoulder movement.

luciferous [2004-11-26 04:17:30 +0000 UTC]

hey there... thisis quite nice, infact not bad at all but and heres a big but... cats dont quite walk like that you see their feet never actually meet like that in the middle, it sounds silly to describe but its true none the less, both legs move forward on the same side at the same time.. i think its front limb slightly ahead of hind limb.... sadly i know this because i worked on a pilot episode of a cave man series that never was with a woman who for the love of all things fluffy couldnt grasp how a cat moved because when she got on all fours she couldnt quite do what i was telling her.

I have the animators survival kit.. i love that book, but when doing awalk cycle for an animal try to find real life imagery of them, or watch a pet cat walk around... the only time a cats feet meet directly under its body is during a full out dash

your animation is very good however.... i am gonna toddle off now to have a perusal of your gallery

tigrin In reply to luciferous [2004-11-26 06:02:52 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, but... 1) That's not exactly a cat, 2) I've been following my cats around watching them walk, and they DO walk that way. of course, their anatomy is different - for instance, my cat Pumpkin's legs are short and his body is long - so his legs don't usually overlap, but they do move opposite directions like that on the same side. if both front and back legs moved forward at the same time on the same side, it'd fall over. o_O
