oh my god this is HORRIBLE. somanymistakes. oh well. learning exercises are FUN!this was mostly referenced from a walk cycle by Richard Williams. and obsessively following my cats around. think I might've freaked them out a little... but they got revenge by sitting on my frames as I worked. last time I animate on the floor.
yep. I'll scrap this when I do one better. ..;;

Horri-wah?! This is amazing! You really got the motion of the legs down, and the head bobs with the legs rather well, too! The only thing I can see that would need some work with is the tail, but it's just an outline, so it's hard to tell.
Great job!

Freaken mad!!!!! I tried an animation of samba talking - I did key fames for 15sec worth of time, but screw doing 345 tween frames!!!!!! You should check me out if you like the lion king

Now THAT is what you call great animation. I think you should actually colour it in and do a real Disney job on it. Faving the piccy.

Heh... kinda funny, 'cause it's walking to the beat of my music, and it's bobbing it's head like, 'Oh yeah, I'm walkin'...and head-dancin', and I am too cool for you.'
You might not, but I really like this... love the bobbing head and tail.

I think the only anatomy issue is that the head should be lower and bob slightly less, but swing slightly from side to side as the cat walks.

hey, cool... I'd been wondering when you were going to do an animation of a furrecat walking. Or running. Lovely job... I love it. Head movement and everything. Cool. ^^

Really well done!
it looks like the toes unfold a little too late before hitting the ground but that may be just because of the animation and maybe the right shoulder blade should come slightly higher up.
otherwise, it's perfect, I have many many cats at home and this looks very accurate

This is really, good actually. Just a few minor things, but one of them may because my computer won't play it smoothly. The walk seems to speed up and slown down right in the middle, but like I said, it could be my comp. The only other thing is the head bobbing. It's a little too exxagerated. The poor kitty is going to get dizzy. Nice shoulder and hip movements. A lot of people forget about that.

Wow, are you kidding me? This is great! I don't see any errors at all, the animation is VERY smooth--I envy you. I tried to do something similar in flash and it didn't come out anywhere NEAR as good as this.

Animation is something, sadly, I can't seem to get the hang of no matter how hard I try. Something like this is such an inspiration. The sequence is so smooth and life-like. The way the body shifts and bends ever so slightly makes the movements so believable. I am in absolute awe.
Perhaps one day you could post a few tips, or a tutorial, on animation sequences?
and beyond.

Thanks... actually, this is mostly referenced from a book called The Animator's Survival Kit... it's a -big- book and somewhat expensive, if I remember correctly... but if you can find it, it's extremely helpful for learning most everything there is to know about traditional animation... and it's got a lot of examples and such. I've yet to look through the whole thing but it's written by someone who did animation their whole life, so I'm sure he knows what he's talking about. XD
I dunno. I'm not an animator so it seems pretentious for me to start dishing out tips about it (especially when there are some really awesome animators here on DA), though I did have to figure out a method of putting it together on the computer, I could do a tutorial for that... o.O though I'm sure other people have much easier ways of doing that.

Ah, thanks for mentioning that book. I'll try to look into it if I manage to find it >3
*nod* That's more along the lines of what I meant. Any personal tips you might have to offer on the issue. I certainly hope you consider it :3

?What be the little bug in the bottom left?

tigrin In reply to screwloose [2004-11-13 20:55:05 +0000 UTC]
the little thing in the bottom left was a dot I was using to line up the frames.... I meant to crop it off but I guess it didn't work.

what's the little black dot at the bottom for/from?

tigrin In reply to foenix [2004-11-13 20:54:20 +0000 UTC]
I meant to crop that all the way off but it didn't quite work for all the frames... the dot's on every frame so I could line them up easily when I put them together. they also had a number below so I could keep the frames in the right order. XD;

its like 5 gazillion times better then my crappy animations. How many frames did this take and what were the lil intervals between each one?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
tigrin In reply to spygirl4000 [2004-11-13 20:51:52 +0000 UTC]
It's twenty frames... ten key frames and ten in-betweens... and each frame runs at .05 seconds, if that's what you mean by intervals...?

Hey there, great animation!! To me it looks like the head moves a bit too much for a walk cycle, but that might just be me, and it might be what you were going for. Great movement in the hips and shoulder region!!

This looks pretty solid to me o.o Good sense of weight, nice drag of the head, and I could really feel the skeletal structure underneath. My fav parts are the rump and the head x3 The front paw closest to us seemed to be on a higher plane, but meh, minor things. Overall, it's great!
Richard Williams, eh? His Animator's Survival Kit? That book is THE book to have as far as animation (under Frank n Ollie's book, o'course). I did a walk cycle a lil while ago, I feel your pain T_T Post more! Pllleeeeeaaaaassseeee, I love'em t'bits!

tigrin In reply to dabean [2004-11-13 05:49:44 +0000 UTC]
yaaay, glad you like it. ^^! yeah, somewhere something went wrong with that front paw... I messed up the in-between so it kinda jerks as it goes forward... and it goes up on a higher plane somehow and slides back. XDD oh well, stuff to keep in mind for next time.
I picked up that book sometime like... two years ago... I have no idea... and I always mean to sit down and do lessons out of it or something, but have never had the motivation/time. o.O though I very much love animation, yessss.... I'll certainly do more (I need something to do for my Drawing class, anyway).
