Description
Ugh... I can't believe I'm doing this.I'm making the alphabet for the turian common language, which is Palavenese. This makes me feel like I'm more a geek than usual, but due to this week's page requiring some turian writing, I had to make this, so my head doesn't get exploded from trying to think of the fonts, while drawing and watching the MICF Great Debate at the same time. Plus consistency is nice.
Feel free to use it at your own enjoyment, but crediting me is nice too. So please be nice and credit me if you're going to use it.

You know some of the letters in this version of the Turian alphabet look a little familiar. I do notice that some of the letters in this alphabet look similar to some of the letters in the Phoenician and aramaic alphabet's www.iranchamber.com/scripts/ar⦠Check it out for yourself!
I,m only going to refer to each letter as the turian equivalent to what ever english letter you've listed under them as I don't know the actual names of each letter in the turian alphabet and also for the sake of convenience, while I tell you some of the Phoenician and Aramaic letters that some of the letters in this alphabet strongly resembles!
Here goes....
The turian equivalent to A resembles an 'Aleph
The turian equivalent to B resembles a Beth
The turian equivalent to D resembles a backwards 'Aleph
The turian equivalent to E resembles a He
The turian equivalent to G resembles an upside down Beth
The turian equivalent to H resembles an Heth
The turian equivalent to M ressembles a MeemΒ
The turian equivalent to N resembles a NunΒ
The turian equivalent to O resembles an 'Ayin
The turian equivalent to P resembles a SadeΒ
The turian equivalent to Q resembles a Teth
The turian equivalent to S resembles a Samekh
And the turian equivalent to X resembles a Taw....
Phew! Thats at least 13 of them and heres another link I want you to check out also www.omniglot.com/writing/phoen⦠I,m not kidding, maybe it's just me over analyzing or maybe it's a coincidence but some of those turian letters really do look like that! and there probably more to if I can see anymore comparisons probably to other languages. I,m not sure if you were either influenced or if the way this version of the turian alphabet turned out was unintentionally this way all out of complete coincidence, But either way I Freaking like it no wait I Freaking love it!
You did an awesome job here! I totally faved this!
As for the other letters in the turian alphabet there are some things that I also find very familiar but can't verify yet maybe with a little more comparing I would find more interesting things. Wouldn't be to surprised if all the other turian letters resemble other letters from other semitic and maybe proto-semitic lingo. Oddly enough for an alien species based on the romans... I don't know what else to say. Β
Sorry for the looooong comment! >.< I hope it isn't a cumbersome read! I just felt like I wanted to get all of that out of my chest.
Also one more thing before I go. Doesn't that turian equivalent to I look like the arabic letter Alif? Also used in farsi aka persian? Cause it sure does looks like it to me. Please note I,m not say that any of it is just because it looks similar doesn't mean it is and I know turian lingo isn't like earth lingo. I get that, It's just I felt like comparing some the letter in it to some of the letters from those other languages I just mentioned.
OMG! Maybe i,m just being a seriously massive geek! xDΒ

Well, I admit the inspiration comes from the Phoenician alphabet, but with a small hint of Korean characters along the way during it's creation.
I've been thinking of expanding the turian common language futher and probably working an old ancient Taetravi dialect that was lost along with the advance turian tech during the Unification Wars.
Hint: There's one character who had both the knowledge of the Taetravi Dialect and a small part of that tech.

Maybe, but not at the moment. I have a lot on my plate at this time.

Very well done, although this does seem to be based on human sounds. I would imagine aliens to have a shorter or longer range of sounds, and they probably wouldn't be exactly the same as our own.

True, true. Coming from a background that uses subtle tone difference in my language, I'd imagine they do. However I like to keep it simple for now, at least with the turian common language.
Still, I would reconsider the tonal inflictions for the other turian colony languages in the future, though.Β

It's the most amazing, helpful thing I've ever seen! Wow, pretty nice work on letters and everything.
Looks great, now drawings with turians will be more professional
Thank you!

LOL... I can tell where you adapted all of these from. Not bad though, makes for an interesting visual.

Sort of. I've got most of the symbols from the Phoenician Alphabet, with a few twists since it's missing a few bits, like the letter 'Z'.
Still, glad you've enjoy it.

I have to ask though, is this cannon because I don't believe I've ever seen any hint at a language or alphabet for the Turians

tillianCatcher In reply to Mralig112 [2014-03-03 15:35:03 +0000 UTC]
No, it's not canon. If it is, it will be on the ME wiki and I'd use that instead.

They say genius and madness are two side of the same coin. I'm not intending to be completely sane anytime soon.
