Description
Set myself the challenge this week of developing a means to create dynamic flexible chainmail clothing in maya. Doing some sim tests, this image came about.Related content

As a long time weaver of maille, I can confirm that european 4-1 does in fact look like that when draped over irregular forms. Well done!

This must have been difficult to creat the dynamic on this. How did you create the collisions ? Dosnt dynamics and maya physics work with placing these settings on a vertex Or did they change it ? I haven't played with those setting for years

After toying around with vertex positions /contraints and arrays from n-cloth, decided to try a simpler approach using the n-cloth as a wrap deformer for a curve array (from which very basic nurbs torus's where derived via a simple script). If one limits the bending and gives the cloth a self-collide offset, there very little noticeable warping of the curves, at it ends up being surprisingly light for the simulation.

interesting i should try and get back into ncloth. it sounds as though they fixed a lot of the issues i had from using it a couple years back.

Impressive! Slightly creepy too
Have you tried any 6-in-1 chainmail too?

Thanks! 6-in-1; actually I started my tests with 6-in-1, but decided 4-in-1 was more economical for computing resources (also less opaque!).

Oh I see! Well only aficionados would know the difference anyway
Very nice lighting too btw!

Indeed (and would also know how much that stuff weighs! )... cheers!
