Description
Of course this is too long; don't read-worthy material, and yes, sure, all of you do not have to read all of it if you want, but...For the past 10 to 11 years and counting, this person (that would be yours truly, Timothy McKenzie) has long been toying with the idea to one day attempt to bring to the big screen of movie theaters (and especially in widescreen or IMAX) any or many of the animated cartoon characters created by the USA-based but Russian-born cult animation director Genndy Tartakovsky, especially in ways best suited to Genndy's talent, genius, art or even his signature style,, especially Dexter and Dee Dee and Mandark of Dexter's Laboratory fame and/or perhaps even Samurai Jack himself and Ashi from Samurai Jack Season 5, among many, many others, and especially in the shape and form of some mammoth big screen cinema spectacle (filled with color and excitement, human drama, comedy and spectacle) to be produced on the grandest, most epic scale and scope (sorta like certain things from MGM's 1939 Wizard of Oz to Peter Jackson's three Lord of the Rings movies from 2001 to 2003), especially with some provisional title like "Dexter's Odyssey", although despite its title it will have little or no relation to the Odyssey of Homer itself, for apart from an emotional virtuosity recalling those of Bambi, The Lion King, or The Iron Giant, the child empowerment of stuff like E.T., The Goonies or Land Before Time, or perhaps some of the charm of stuff like Brave Little Toaster, as well as the artistry of Genndy Tartakovsky's animations like, specifically Samurai Jack and to a certain partial degree, Dexter's Laboratory, it will have a mammoth epic scale and scope recalling that of the likes of The Lord of the Rings, which is J.R.R. Tolkien's massive three-volume fantasy book of a thousand pages plus appendices, an index, and maps, only more expansive, more globe-straddling, more worldly diverse and with far more characters, far more settings, and far more of everything else than that! (and that doesn't even include just elements reminiscent of those of Medieval Europe that define the likes of Lord of the Rings or TV's Game of Thrones (itself based on the Song of Ice and Fire books of George R.R. Martin), for I wanted to incorporate other, more diverse source elements, whether ancient, medieval, or modern, eastern or western, live action or animated, you name it!)
Whether long or short, live action or animated, hand drawn or CGI or both, even if the story itself will take a grand total of one hundred hours and forty-five minutes (including main titles, closing credits, extended prologue or epilogue, and/or numerous subplots plus several brief intermissions or intervals) or much, much less than that to unfold (and if it that big, long, and complex an epic work, then the whole things might well be to be split across several separate installments of manageable length a piece and with appropriate beginnings and endings for each installment), even if it pulled out all the stops especially as far as the world of the cinematic arts, the main through line of the story may well be something like this:
That it may well follow a cartoon kid scientist like Dexter's Laboratory's Dexter as he sets out on a great, epic, titanic questing journey (mostly on foot, probably) to the other side of the world so he can stop his rival neighbor, Mandark (who may also have powers identical to those possessed by a similarly-named Dark Lord from ancient times, also called Mandark), from probably bringing harm to his sister Dee Dee and all that is good in the world all around them especially by launching a mighty and terrible war machine against the world, starting with the faraway and exotic land of Shanghara to the far east (probably based on an amalgam of three countries that generally defines the Far East in Asia: Japan, China, and the Korean peninsula; while its people, the Shanghar, may have characteristics (especially on a racial or ethnic level) of the Japanese and/or Chinese people(s)) and probably ending with Dexter and Dee Dee's suburban community to the far west where Mandark also plans to destroy Dexter's Laboratory once and for all. (Why Mandark will plan to launch against all that is good in the world such a mighty and terrible war machine, we may not know, but I think it may possibly be because Mandark, tired of his romantic advances being foiled by Dee Dee's constant rebuffing of him, and offended at being left off the guest list for a birthday party thrown by Dee Dee, threaten her and all that is good in the world around her with violence to come on Dee Dee's next birthday party or two or three!). Dexter the Boy Genius is helped in his quest by an vast assortment of characters around the world that may also include Ashi from Samurai Jack Season 5 as well as Samurai Jack himself. He even brave insurmountable perils such as attacks from ferocious T rexes and raptors (perhaps more feathery than those in the likes of Jurassic Park), dinosaur stampedes, and many an epic battle and bloodshed along the route!
And being a huge mix of color and excitement, human drama and comedy and spectacle, then it may be so far removed from the tone and scope of a kids cartoon show like Dexter's Laboratory that I might well even invent several new characters to go along with the cartoon characters that Genndy Tartakovsky created (like Jack and Ashi and Dee Dee and Mandark and the aforementioned Dexter himself) thereby making the cast of characters a mammoth cast of thousands, indeed!
Just like with all great movies, potential or otherwise, such a thing is going to be, however ambitious an undertaking can be, a collaborative effort especially with all the myriad different elements contributing to its potential success or potential classic/masterpiece status. And even though the voice acting, the script, the mix of hand drawn and computer generated animation techniques, or even the animation artwork itself should be first rate but always reflect the art of Genndy Tartakovsky himself, such a project would never be as effective without its amazing sound and music as well. (and in fact, the music score in this dream project of mine should sound as grand, epic, cinematic, but also ethnic as possible, especially with a full integration of world music textures and ethnic music sounds (depending on the country that Dexter visit on his quest to stop Mandark and appropriate to each country he visits) and electronic synthesizer samples within a full traditional symphony orchestra, just like the film and TV music of none other than the late great film and TV music maestro Jerry Goldsmith. Just saying!)
Yes, it may all evolve in some way, shape or form or other, but all that, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, will be a dream project come true for me one of these days!
By the way, This poster for such a dream project that I'm still toying with even after all these ten or eleven years and counting, depict characters like Dexter and Dee Dee and Mandark (plus Dexter's buddy Douglas E. Mordecai) and Samurai Jack and Ashi only in outline.
Anyway, would all that be very ambitious or very controversial an undertaking?
((And no negativity or trolling or naysaying, please, for I am not trying to be anything close to being as terrible or evil or mad as Adolf Hitler or the Nazis, for unlike Hitler and the Nazis, whose real life goals are actually horrifically genocidal, I am trying to tell a goddamn good story; also, I am a human being, I have a right to live out my life the way I wanted my life to live out, and even people with autism have a right to exist on Earth. It is just that wherever I have been on the internet, I have been chased around the internet til the end of time like an animal by certain internet bullies and trolls such as those on 8ch.net/cow/! So no negativity or naysaying or trolling please! Thank you!))
