Description My favorite are the high medieval ones (1000-1300)
Not much of a late medieval guy (1300-1500)

Nice! I had a research project a while back and this actually would have been quite helpful, if I do say so. I may actually tend towards the later medieval styles as I was a bit disappointed to finally discover that the 1200 style more accurately fit Heldris' "Le Roman de Silence"!

Indeed! I'm certainly a sucker for extravagant detail and had this fancy image in my head all ready to go. Alas!
I have a greater appreciation for the more earlier design now though I think. I'd rather be accurate than overly fanciful

You're quite right. It is interesting that the excesses of later times in terms of the manner and fashion of dress seem reflective of the shifting values of society, come to think on it. I like the ornate detail of the later armour, but inasmuch as aesthetics of form go, I'm more moved by the high medieval style. There's more cloth there that I can make 'flow' in any case, and as seduced by detail as I am, movement in a composition is the greater attractor.

Now that is quite interesting; makes me ponder contemporary society a little bit.

My favorite European armors are from the 1300-1600s.
