What there is to know about Captain Goomba Jones is shrouded in mystery and legend, most toad scholars don't even believe he existed but to those few who have crossed his path he is anything but a myth and the legends don't do justice to his evil.

Captain Goomba Jones comes across as perhaps charming and reasonable but that hides a soul who has no problem killing to get what he wants, he is also intelligent and calculating, fair only to those who are part of his crew and anyone outside who poses a problem is just meat to be done away with.

Sometimes Goomba Jones will give a stranger the option of becoming a part of his crew, but you must be very sure about it as this tie is not easily broken, those who have jumped ship he finds very easily and punishes.

He is captain of the Shadow Empress, one of the largest doomships ever built that was reported sunk over 600 years ago which lead many Toad scholars to suspect that the captain didn't exist at all despite the wreck of the Shadow Empress never being found.

If the legends are true the Shadow Empress is filled with riches beyond dreams. In reality it is, but it is home to much more as the ship is also loaded with a number of magical artefacts and cursed objects which probably allowed Goomba Jones to extend his life beyond his years, allowed him to raise the Shadow Empress from the ocean floor and have control of one of the giant monsters of the sea. Some treasures he keeps on board, others he stashes in secret locations around the world.

He wields the Sword of Storms, an enchanted sword that has the ability to conjure gusts of wind and if the will of the wielder is strong enough conjure an entire storm that could last for centuries. Using this he produced a storm that keeps the Shadow Empress hidden from detection and created the monster that is the Eternal Storm.

Goomba Jones once ransacked the vessel Sarah Celestia in the Soda Sea which was bringing the legendary Hec'toadec (a mysterious object of unknown power, later identified as the Master Emerald) back to Dark land after stealing it from the Inky Goombas. After killing the crew Goomba Jones turned the vessel into a treasure hold storing some dangerous magical objects on board and cast a long lasting static storm around it that later became known as the 'Eternal Storm'.

It is known that Goomba Jones once met the legend of archaeology Dr. Toadstool sometime prior to 1910 to what extent they knew each other is unknown, but it is known that Dr. Toadstool managed to penetrate the Eternal Storm and steal the Hec'toadec and all the treasures on board without Goomba Jones realising, at first at least. The Hec'toadec soon vanished again afterwards but Goomba Jones waited patiently for it to resurface in the world again.

100 years later another archaeologist Professor Kolorado also penetrated the Eternal Storm to find the Sarah Celestia adrift and empty of all except for the diary of Dr. Toadstool, Kolorado then went on an expedition to find the lost Hec'toadec which he believed to be in the cargo hold of the long lost queen of the sea, Toadtanic. Goomba Jones is now keeping a close eye on the expedition that Kolorado is leading to the bottom of the Great Ocean, Jones has correctly assumed that the Hec'toadec is within a lost ship wreck but doesn't know which one, but he has set up a plan so he can find out.
