Based off Doctor Who

Doctor Wii, an alien who travels through space and time in a battered time machine he can barely control. The Doctor has an odd ability, when his body wears out or dies of a fatal wound he has the ability to regenerate every cell in his body, re-shuffeling his genetic code and bringing him back from the brink of death but with the side effect that his physical appearance and personality are both altered.

It was an odd idea I had a few years ago when I drew a picture of Mario as the fourth incarnation of the time travelling adventurer Doctor Who and I suddenly started thinking what other characters could be the other Doctors? Obviously I quickly ran out of Mario characters to use and moved over into Zelda and Sonic characters and even Monkey Island to fill the rolls of the other ten Doctors.

First Doctor: Professor E.Gadd. (Mario)
The first Doctor needed to be someone elderly and I nearly used Toadswroth, but decided E.Gadd was more ideal because he is much older and intelligent.

The Second Doctor: Link (Zelda)
I came up with this one quickly, he needed to be youthful, mischievous, short and would look good in a big hat. The child version of Link was ideal for that. Link even plays a flute in some games so he was the best candidate.

The Third Doctor: Toadsworth (Mario)
I honestly did not have a clue who I could use for the third Doctor but he had to be elderly, brave and stylish, but in lack of anyone like that I chose Toadsworth. I would’ve used Professor Layton, but the third Doctor never wore a hat.

The fourth Doctor: Mario (Mario)
The first one I actually came up with, the most iconic computer game character as the most iconic of the Doctors, nuff said, plus his moustache does look a little curly, suitable substitute for the Doctors curly hair.

Fifth Doctor: Tails the Fox (Sonic)
I came up with this one quickly as well. He needed to be youthful, intelligent, inventive and active, I nearly used Link but settled on Tails. Tails was ideal because he has similar traits and colours, is youthful and like the fifth Doctor can be naive and a little less sure of himself then his other selves.

Sixth Doctor: Doctor Ivo ‘Eggman’ Robotnik (Sonic)
I admit this was a tough one to cast. Funnily enough there are hardly any good guys in games who are arrogant, short tempered and often prone to madness due to a stressful regeneration. So with no obvious good guys I could think of I went over to bad guys. First up was Wario because his clothes were very bright, but I thought if anyone Wario would be the Doctors enemy the Master. But then I remembered Robotnik, his main colour was red like the sixth Doctors jacket, was mad, arrogant and shouts, so he became Doctor number six.

Seventh Doctor: Silver the Hedgehog (Sonic)
This was another tough one to cast, there was almost no characters I could associate with the seventh Doctor until I played Sonic 2006 and I saw Silver and for some reason I thought, “That’s it I’ve found Doctor Seven!”

Doctor Eight: Luigi (Mario)
The eighth Doctor was obvious and quick to do. The eighth needed to be a gentleman, youthful and... green. No competition then, Luigi is Doctor eight!

Doctor Nine: Knuckles the Echidna (Sonic)
The ninth Doctor needed to be tough, slightly moody and act like a lone wolf at times, so Knuckles quickly came to mind.

Doctor Ten: Sonic the Hedgehog (Sonic)
When I first saw the Tenth Doctor dressed in that blue suit and red trainers and with his spiky hair I knew he looked familiar and it took me a few months to suddenly realise why. The tenth Doctor needed to be energetic, intense, a fast runner, wouldn’t look out of place in trainers and very confident and cocky. Sonic was a no brainer.

Doctor Eleven: Guybrush Threepwood (Monkey Island)
When I originally drew all these characters Doctor 10 was the current so Doctor 11 had not been cast or thought about, but when he was cast as Matt Smith who was tall and slightly lanky I nearly cast Warluigi as Doctor 11 because he was tall, lanky and looked slightly bow legged. But one of the eleventh Doctor’s traits was his large chin, then when I started playing Tales of Monkey Island I realised Guybrush in that short jacket was perfect. I’ve drawn him stepping out of the TARDIS and looking back at his past selves.

I did create a short sprite cartoon based off this on my youtube channel [link] looking back at the clip I realise I could've done better. But now that I've gotten better at making sprite cartoons I'm thinking of making a spoof Doctor Who series using these characters.

(This is also my first attempt at using Paint shop and I don't think the results are too bad. I'm pretty proud of it )
