Distinctive features: Slightly taller than the average Koopa, bushy eye brows, a longer pointed beak, missing right eye.

Bio: Karnage is a Koopa General in the service of the Koopa Troop, he came on to the scene during the events of the first Super Mario Bros as an ordinary Troopa. In Super Mario bros. 3 he started to help devise traps and troop placements to make life harder for the Mario Brothers. He fast climbed the ranks due to his tactical skill even though the Mario's managed to avoid his traps or turn them against his own soldiers his superiors were impressed with his ingenuity. He is also credited though not recognised as the Koopa who introduced the idea of using Thwomps and Thwimps as traps, Bowser took that credit for himself.

Despite his traps failing at times Karnage sees defeat as a learning experience and with each defeat he gained experience in how to improve his strategy and his traps making them more dangerous and deadly.

He lost his eye during the events of Super Mario World when the tower he was in was demolished by the Marios he was recovered from the rubble with several broken bones and a crushed beak making it more elongated. He also contracted an eye infection that took his left eye leaving him more determined than ever to get the Marios.

Shortly before the events of Mario and Luigi: The Mask, he was promoted to general and Kanrnage began to see the reality of the army he was in. Believing it to be inefficient, stupid and lacking any physical strength apart from Bowser himself. Karnage set himself the task of training the troops in his squad to be the best, making them run through training drills and study maps and analyse their surroundings. He had also been given Koopa Squad which comprised of 5 of the most stupid Koopas he'd ever trained, originally they were the best he had but were fast outpaced by his other students to the point where he'd often sends Koopa Squad on missions he knew would fail anyway.

Entering Bowsers inner circle as an advisor Bowser showed his true colours not as an awesome leader that he had been lead to believe would give the Koopas victory, but a joke, an embarrassment, someone not worthy of leading the great Koopa army at all -the Koopa pecking order meant that the leader of the Koopa's was whoever was the biggest and strongest. Intelligence didn't come into it.- Bowser had several advisor including Karange and Kamek, yet the Koopa King doesn't listen to any of their suggestions, instead cherry picking what bits he liked and inventing ideas of his own which Karnage strongly disagreed with.

Karange is, though is not considered, an insolent Koopa, he obeys but only obeys in his own way -as in the example where he'd send Koopa Squad on a mission he knows will fail- and over years of working with other generals whom he thinks are below his standards caused him to develop a sarcastic, dry wit which he aims at anyone he thinks makes a stupid suggestion and is also a psychological mechanism for dealing with stress.

During the events of Mario and Luigi: The Mask, Karnage fell into a pact with a mysterious creature called Ouroboros who promises to put Karnage on the Koopa Throne if he helps him find a certain wooden Mask with an unusual curse on it.

Inspiration

The character is mostly based off of Black Adder from season 4 of the series of the same name.

I wanted someone who could look at Bowsers operation from the inside and who could directly ridicule it. He is also the beaten down wise guy thinking who thinks he is destined for better things but is constantly shackled by the idiocy of the people around him.
