Description
13 years ago on February 2nd (2008) My best friend from college Tabatha87 and I headed to Toronto, Ontario, Canada for our face to face interviews to work at Walt Disney World. (Those who followed me that long probably remember all the pictures and excitement leading up to the big day.) It was such a fun experience all round. (Spoiler, for those who do not know... we both got the job.) If you want to know more about the job read below. Otherwise feel free to check out my speed-paint video. - www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzvCo2… (Background is a photo I took when we were working there. It is in my pictures here on DA if you want to see the original.) ----------------------------------------------------------------
In case you didn't know Epcot (one of the 4 parks that make up Walt Disney World) has half the park set up to look like historical places from countries around the world. Allowing guests to get a taste of what it would be like to visit some of the real landmarks. Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Morocco, France, UK and Canada are the countries permanently represented in Epcot. (USA too but they don't hire internationally for USA ) Each country has shops and restaurants (Mexico, Norway, China, France, and Canada have a ride/movie as well.) All these areas are run by cast members from that country. Almost all of them are on a 1 year work visa from their country. Ask them sometime if you are ever there, especially if you are planning to visit their real country sometime. Find out what THEY think is something you should try or see while in their country and you may get a unique idea. Or if you are from that country go say hi. I am sure they will be happy to hear from you. (Animal Kingdom Lodge/Park also uses the same work visas for people from some African and Asian countries fitting to their theme. I also see Brazil has been added to the list to work anywhere by the looks of it.) While working there Disney provides housing and free transportation work and many important places in the area that you may need to go. It is a super cool way to spend a year, living with people from all over the world. Still the best job I ever had was this particular adventure. (I worked at Disney again when I did the college program. I worked at Art of Animation and that was good too but other problems at the time kind of messed up my experience to make it less fun than it might have been otherwise. I also worked at Universal Studios in an unrelated Adventure and it was up there with my time working at Epcot, but... not quite. I think I still consider that one year at Disney the best as the whole experience was awesome. Not just at work.) If that sounds cool and you wish you could do it too and you are from one of the countries they hire from for it. Just because I named ones above does not restrict to only those ones, there are other work experiences so check out their page before you give up. You will also need to be at least 18 years old, be able to speak and understand English well enough that you can work in an English speaking environment on your own if needed. But you will probably be interviewed in English. If you are not from an English speaking country they understand you won't be perfect but you should be comfortable, part of doing the work experience will help you better your English speaking skills. Other than that check out their page and pick the experience fitting for you. You can also check back to see when they are hiring in your country. (The program Tabatha and I did and the one I am talking about above is the Cultural Representative Program. You do not need to be in college for it and is kind of a great thing if you want to take a break before going into college.) People from the USA if you want you can check out the College Program if you want a work experience at Disney.
Unfortunately due to Covid right now they don't have the programs open for people. But that means when they do open them they will be doing a lot of hiring all over the world to get those jobs filled back up. They have a brand new housing complex for the cast members to live in as well which looks AMAZING. Imagine it being your home. I am so jealous of the new people that will get hired after this covid thing is better. Our old places were nice but not nearly as amazing as the new apartments. (Check them out <-- As far as I know internationals will go there too... College program people often forget the other programs exist. )
