Description Outside door to Ward 1, Weston State Hospital, Weston WV.

Once called "Lunatic Asylum West of the Allegheny Mountains", Weston State Hospital is now a National Historic Monument with a fascinating history for those of us who are students of psychology

The original hospital, designed to house 250 souls, was open to patients in 1864 and reached its peak in the 1950's with 2,400 patients in overcrowded and generally poor conditions. Changes in the treatment of mental illness and the physical deterioration of the facility forced its closure in 1994.

We have one of those in PA. I forget where without looking it up. It's said to be haunted by the paitents and nurses that were there at the time it was open. There are alot of places that I know of that are haunted places here in my good ol state of PA. The one taht I know of completly is a jail in Philly that is haunted that used to hold Al Capone in that is haunted by the people that died in there. Grusome place.

I think it is the name of it. Never gone there but I've heard of it through shows on the Travel channel and a show called The Scariest Places on Earth. And the last time I read something on it the artical said it was going to be turned into a Wal-Mart. Not sure if it's true or not. But if it is that is going to be one haunted Wal-Mart.

My grandmother would agree with you on the Wal-Mart in Lebanon that we go to. Mostly shoppers are purto rican and ya can't get anywhere without ailes blocked and other annoying stuff that goes on. That's why we go out of town to go shopping for groceries. Like a place called Dutchway. You can get stuff for cheap and homemade meals from the Mennanite (I know I misspelled that but hey no ones perfect at spelling).

I can only imagine how many people shuffled past that door every day when it was in business. Freaky stuff!

I had a great aunt who was admitted there in the early 60's. She had a inoperable brain tumor, and so all the complications effecting reasoning, and was basically sent there to die. At least I know she had visitors.

Interesting shot. I would only line it up, it's hanging a little bit.
