Description
Back in 2005, my friend Mark Young and I created a comic strip called Then Comes Marriage. It was the story of Stella and James, a young married couple living in the city. James is trying to make it as a writer, and Stella works all day in a busy office.King Features Syndicate gave us a development deal, but it involved altering the concept, so that James's profession was changed from a writer to a general contractor. Apparently, DIY reno stores were big advertisers in newspapers, so the syndicate was trying to target that demographic. We changed the name of the strip to Built to Last, but Mark and I weren't contractors and knew little about the business, so it wasn't a good fit, and eventually King Features cut us loose. Suffice it to say that our dreams were shattered. If you're interested in more details, you can read more about our experience here .
Anyway, the only strips I drew in the new format are all rough and unfinished. Kind of symbolic, actually. They've been languishing on my hard drive for the last decade and a half, so I figured I'd dust them off and share them. Comics are meant to be read!
Thanks for looking!

But in today's world, he'd be looking online. I mean, how dated is this one? In that last panel, there's a phone booth AND a newspaper box!
