First Critique I've ever done goes to Tim for this grand photo.

As you star at the photo for the first time and read the short piece below it, it sort of warms your heart and deterioates it at the same time.

First glances of the photo as said before see the commanding cigarette which is a lot brighter than the rest of the picture, considering this is the focal point it is right to be like this. Whether this was done by Tim I don't know but it sure does take the overall impact through the roof for this picture.

The man was brilliantly camptured with the techniques used, the crisp young like looking hair, the withered body and the worked clothing being worn all adds to the impact of the photo and the technique to capture this.

Using the principle of thirds here as you notice the cigarette comes up in line with the bottom left quadrant and the head with the top left. This makes it very appealling to the eye, naturally.

Empty space has been used very well in this shot, the backdrop is all out of focus each to me leaves the characted standing alone as though he has noone but this lonely cigarette. Also as you will notice because of the mood of this photo the man is looking down into the space which speaks a lot, saying that is also alone because people who are feeling good look up and look people in the face, but this shows a man whos tired to put on that face for the others.

Even though the content of the photo is small, it speaks a thousand words...

Hahaha thanks. Some of the words used aren't the correct use, I knew what I was talking about in my head more than on the critique. Love the bowing emoticon will have to use that sometime. In a bit Tim...

At first glance the cigarette commands the attention of the viewer, it is so stark against the background of the photo. Then you see his eyes. Eyes that hold some lingering pain, laughter, and regret.

The emotion and contrasts of tone work very well together. I really enjoyed the perspective and the composition especially in respect to his body position. I think that the close crop is great, and the structure of the background works very well. The lightest part is by his face and the darkest part is behind him. It almost tells you a story in itself, that the things to come for this man are brighter than his past was.

I enjoyed it very much, Thank you for sharing it!

i think that this photo is truly a piece of art. the concept here is strong, bold, and easy to be noticed. the expression that the man has on his face tells me that even though he smokes, he really does not want to. the man almost has a look of anguish. i think that you caught him at a very good time. the overall tone of the photo really amazes me as well. to me it brings out the concept even more. an old, yet calm, serene person man enjoying a smoke. the only thing that i would have liked to seen is his head not cropped out of the photo towards the top. otherwise, it's a very well done photo. the composition is great too. very nice use of the rule of thirds here. very well done. e.deviantart.com/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />
