Updated:This was a late contest entry for the BronyCon documentary limited edition print at Prizes.org, so it didn't have a chance to be considered. Contest rules stated you couldn't use characters from the show, so they are generic or mildly close to known characters, like Celestia.
The concept of this poster was to show the role of each type of pony working in harmony based off the episode, "Hearth's Warming Eve." In that episode, unicorns were shown originally controlling the Sun and Moon, while Earth grows the food, Pegasi controls the weather. Sadly, I made the mistake of adding wings to the unicorn to better represent the current one doing the job, Celestia. Being new to the show, I didn't realize what Alicorns were. On a certain level, it still works for me since it still shows all the roles working together.

I understand where everyone is coming from with the balance between the earth/pegasus/unicorn ponies and how the unicorn seems to fade into the background, but I feel the need to disagree - Having one sole unicorn fading into the night sky gives that area of the image an air of magic and mystery, which is perfectly fitting for the ponies who wield magic that ranges from helpful to destructive.
I also love love love how you divided each of the pony factions with the beams of sunlight resonating from the alicorn; that effect and composition manages to both show that there are different ponies and that they are all part o the same world and coexist peacefully under the same sun. I also find it amazing that the texture you used looks great in every instance it was placed in the picture, it never looks out of place or overused.
I would also love to have this hanging on my wall~

So we have two pegasi, two earthponies (of which one is background), and an alicorn? I like the art and the composition with the alicorn but unicorns need to represented too, right?

But controlling the sun and the moon are jobs for the alicorns, not unicorns. I guess the only difference between alicorns and unicorns (that I can think of) are that the alicorns have wings and are "royalty".

What about the episode where they put on a play to show their history. Where a cold destructive blizzard threatened everything and that they all blamed each other for not doing their jobs, which then explained unicorns control the sun and the moon. That's at least where I got the idea from, but maybe I'm remembering incorrectly.

I just checked that, and indeed the unicorns /demanded food for magically bringing forth day and night/, but they do raise a flag with Luna and Celestia in it...
Also maybe the unicorns were just cheating when it was the alicorns who had dealt with the sun and the moon for millenia :3

The unicorns don't really seem to have much in representation here. Not like the other two do.

I sort of skewed the idea by making the unicorn an alicorn for a more Celestia like presence in the current time period in Equestria. Though, there is a unicorn head in the night sky. But the Unicorns control the sun and the moon, which takes up half the poster.

Honestly, an alicorn isn't the same as a unicorn. According to show canon, unicorns were their own faction among the three and did not include alicorns. Alicorns seem to be reserved only for those ponies of high station and encompass all three qualities of each breed.
I did notice the one in the sky, but it sinks so easily into the background, it might as well not be there at all. What I got from the picture is earth ponies and pegasus ponies whom are ruled over by alicorns. Which is accurate. But the poster would've worked better if unicorns had been given the same treatment. The balance is off to me. Otherwise, it is very well done. Just the composition throws me.

Dude, honestly, I wish you finished this print in time, but again time is our biggest enemy most of the time as artists. I'm just really impressed how much you got done within a couple days and watching you struggle to the finish line was kinda heartbreaking, since you worked real hard on it. Interestingly enough, you still manage to pull every single element into the picture to make it as a whole. You seem to really have a good grasp of composition as I haven't told you enough.
It would've been so badass to get this signed as a print. Hell, if we go to CTN and hunt down Lauren Faust I'd do it.

Okay, I normally don't dig pony art, but this is suPERBLY designed! I absolutely LOVE the composition and colors! I think this would make a fantastic print n.n
