Description Part I: The First Vision

It was a sunny day outside, the sun of March was sending its rays into my room, a room quite simple. It had an elevated bed, a table, 2 closets, 2 small libraries, one under my bed and the other one beside it and a desk that was a part of the structure under my elevated bed. On this desk, lied a computer and other various objects, including my 2 twisty puzzles, a 3x3x3 puzzle and a 4x4x4 one.

It was on this desk that I, Tim, was reading dragon transformation stories on DeviantArt (how original!), when an idea appeared in my head; I should probably contribute to this community, even if most stories were written between 2007 and 2010. Who knows, maybe some people are still willing to read new stories of that kind. Writing my first story shouldn't be a challenge, considering the ease I had to bust the limit of words in writing exams. By example, right after finishing an exam where the limit was 400 words, I went on my tablet and wrote a fanfic that was 4 and a half pages long! So I started searching for a context and ideas (wait, what the hell am I writing here?), when it happened.

I felt my digital watch starting to vibrate, a strange thing since I never set any vibration alarm to go off at any time! So I looked at it, and under my eyes, my watch, which I had for not even 3 days, had gone haywire! The numbers kept changing at high speeds in a random way, such that I couldn't read the time anymore. Even the date was changing, going from indicating Monday a moment, Saturday the other then changing to Wednesday the following moment!

Then, like it started, the vibrations and the time went back to normal.

Even though I thought that the phenomenon was over, and I was right on that, another one started right after: the lines making the symbols on the watch that we call numbers and letters started to float out of the watch individually!

At that moment, I was sure I was in a dream because a common sign of dreaming was being unable to read your watch, or any other clock for that matter. To check if I was really in a dream, I checked both my hands, to see if they were normal. As a matter of fact, they weren't! I was supposed to have 2 hands with 5 fingers each, but I only had 3 fingers, and human hands aren't usually clawed and covered in red scales. I further checked the rest of my body, but only my hands were like that, and the changes had no progression, so I wasn't transforming into something like a dragon or a scaled dinosaur, which was an old depiction because apparently they had feathers!

So I was now sure to be in a dream, I had to do what every lucid dreamer does, that being flying. What I would do was I was going to go outside through my window and fly, not worrying about the reactions that I would cause below me. In fact, I would have loved to see those reactions in detail, I was in a dream after all, so I should profit of each occasion to have fun, but for now I had to focus on trying to fly. I opened the window, and I went on my solarium's roof, it being at the same level as my bedroom. Once on the roof, I went to its edge, I concentrated, closed my eyes and leaped off.

At first, I couldn't believe my eyes, I was really flying, going in the direction my head was pointing at. I looked at my back to see if, for some reason, I had grown wings, but no, I was really floating by myself, in the airs, as free as a bird, with the city down below me. I descended to a lower altitude to go and meet people, who, for some unknown reason, started jumping around when they saw me. They weren't cheering, just jumping. I guess the brain imagines weird things once the part that takes care of logic goes to sleep.

I was having as much fun as I could, this being the first time I had a lucid dream, when everything faded to darkness. From a moment to the other, I passed from flying over a city crowded with jumping people to... Nothing really, just darkness. I looked at myself, and to my surprise, I couldn't see my body! It's as if the only thing in here was my mind. I didn't fear though, for I had no reason to fear, knowing this was just a dream.

Then, I heard a voice, that sounded deeper than mine, saying "One, two, one, two, testing! Tim, can you hear me? Just say yes if you can."

I answered "yes", then involuntarily let out a giggle.

"Why did you giggle at me?" The voice asked, "Do I sound ridiculous?"

I answered "No, I just thought it was funny to hear an omniscient voice say such a thing, they aren't supposed to test if someone could hear them, they already know that the person could hear them."

The voice replied "Yeah my usual microphone and speaker are malfunctioning, so I'm using some that I don't trust as well as the others, but it's good to know you can hear me. Anyway, Tim, have you heard of dragons?"

"Who hasn't heard of them?" I replied, "Great biological airplanes with a pretty decent pilot if you ask me, a very accurate set of sensors, 4 non-retractable landing gears, a very reptilian cockpit, who are very flexible for an airplane and are loaded with a flame thrower that ejects fire from the same hole from which you send the fuel to fill the tanks! Not to confuse with wyverns, who only have 2 non-retractable landing gears instead of 4."

"If you see it that way, I don't think you're serious enough for what I wanted to show you." The voice then said.

"Ok, ok, if we can't have a little fun in lucid dreams anymore." I replied.

Then the voice replied to my reply by saying "You are no longer in a lucid dream, I, one of the last dragon souls, am showing you a vision! Anyway, the dragons, as I was saying before you spoofed us, are now only known as mythical creatures by the normal human being. To avoid losing our legacy forever, I will show you how we lived a long time ago."

"So dragons really did exist? You were more than the product of human imagination?" I asked.

"At a certain time, we were a species as prolific as humans are today, did you really think creatures like us could have been only imagined by human minds? No. They saw us living, and they noted it in their books." The voice answered.

Then it continued with "I am indeed here to show you our story, because the one made by humans depicting us as evil monsters who passed their lives living on a treasure that humans could get if they defeated us is not true for the majority of the dragons. But to show it to you, I will have to take you with me on a journey through time, back when dragons were a prolific species. I will let you see for yourself, explaining our story to you while you look at the past."

All of a sudden, I got surrounded by a wonderful valley, with plenty of caves on the 2 mountain chains on the sides of the valley. The mountains themselves had just the perfect combination of trees and rocky peaks that passed through massive forests. In the middle of the valley lied a river made of crystal clear blue water, I don't think I've ever seen water that looked like this, and to this day I can't humanly describe how that water was. Besides the water, there were a lot of grass and plenty of flowers of all kinds, roses, tulips, you name it, it was there and with flowers that I don't think exist here today. In these flower plains roamed lots of sheep, and also, marching, lying, standing, flying, all around, there were... Dragons. Dragons of lots of different colours, it took me 2 seconds to find enough different dragons to make a rainbow! They also had different sizes, ranging from the small babies to the massive adults who stood as tall as the trees around them! And to put the cherry on this magnificent heavenly cake, there was a beautiful sunset going on, with the sun lined up perfectly with the river, who seemed to lose itself in the horizon.

"Wonderful site, isn't it?" The voice asked.

"Genuinely wonderful indeed." I replied.

"Before explaining to you our story, I think it would be better if I showed myself to you first. It would be creepy to have a voice speaking to you while you floated through these lands. So to make it easier for you, I will show you this while we both have our bodies." The voice said.

And so, as soon as he finished his sentence, I recovered my own body, and a gigantic black and blue dragon appeared in front of me. His height was equivalent to three times my own height, he had an elongated muzzle, his ears were like smaller versions of his wings, a bit like traditional paper fans, he had 2 horns sticking out of his head, teeth like fangs, a long tongue that forked at its tip, front paws that had 3 long fingers with claws at their tips, same for the dragon's back paws, he had 2 big wings on his back that looked like the reptilian version of a bat's wings, a long tail that was about as long as the rest of his body, and the whole was covered in black and blue scales.

Then the dragon said "It's not everyday that you see a dragon in front of you, am I right?"

"Indeed not." I replied.

The dragon continued while placing me on his back with his tail "Well, now that this is settled, let's start our journey, ladies and gentlemen, please fasten your seatbelt and if you are sick then there is a bag made specifically for that right in front of you!"

I replied with "I thought this was a serious vision?"

"I can change my mind sometimes, and since you brought the plane joke, I thought I might add to it," said the dragon. "Anyway, this was the valley in which lied the great community of the dragons of the thirteenth century, golden age of the typical european fire-breathing dragons. We weren't the first type of dragon found by the europeans, those were another type that resembled more to snakes than us, found by the greek in the antiquity, but that is not what I want to talk about. A fun fact, Tim, is that the trees on the mountain over there had an average height of over 12 meters! And some dragons are as tall as them! When I say that this was the golden age of these dragons, I mean also in height because since then no other european dragon ever reached that height! I myself measure less than half of what they were, and I was one of the tallest dragons of my time! Now, let's talk about this place, this valley was found by a group of fire-breathing dragons, who decided to stay here because the valley was coincidently perfectly aligned with the sun's direction as it moved over the sky. Using a magic that only dragons could use, the dragons embellished the pile of rock and dirt that was the valley and they turned it into the paradise that it was this place. The population of dragons decided to follow them and decided to call this place home, for the most part because some dragons decided to stay in their old caves and guard their treasures from humans. Those dragons, who preferred to play with humans over living in this paradise, were the ones described in the european folklore. These dragons, thus, were evil. But, as shown by the number of dragons described in books versus the number of dragons in this place, they were a minority, like the psychopathic humans are versus the other humans."

"And were they bored in this paradise?" I asked.

"They found things to do, some studied magic, others, like some humans do today, tried to create the best culinary experiences, others decided to meet humans and let themselves be studied. Sadly, the immense knowledge gained by those humans were lost in time, the books were never found." Replied the dragon.

"So they may still exist, preserved in hidden homes?" I asked.

"It's a possibility," The dragon replied, "it would be helpful to find them for they hold informations on dragons that humans have not known for centuries. While those dragons were studied, they also took time to teach the humans some magic. Just to place you, those humans were the genuine wizards that could do real magic that are spoken of in legends."

"By the way," I asked once more, "did the dragons have a sort of hierarchy of power in this paradise?"

"A dragon's mind isn't the same as a human's mind. A human's mind is weaker against the want of power and is more corrupted. You, surprisingly, are an exception to this description for you have learned, somehow, to clear your mind further from corruption than normal people. This is why I chose you to be the one I showed to our history."

"Let's say my father taught me well," I replied.

Then the dragon said "Well your father is also an exception, I may show this to him too. Now, because we had purer minds, we didn't really need any hierarchy or government, but just in case, we had a leader. The leader was chosen by the elder dragons, who were the wisest. This should be enough information for you today, I will see you another day to continue this story, but for now, I have to go, a mind connection with you that lasts a bit longer than this one may start affecting your mind in ways I wouldn't want it to."

"Ok," I said, "then, one last thing, what is your name? You know mine, I'd like to know yours, and it may be useful for the next time."

"Harron." Replied the dragon, as everything faded away. I was waking up.

When I woke up, I knew what I was going to do to occupy myself that day, I was going to write a story and contribute to the draconic community of DeviantArt.

Interesting start.
You jumped from first person to third person in the first sentence of the second paragraph. You need to figure out who your narrator isΒ and stick with himΒ as its considered sloppy to switch around like that.
Didn't know about the whole watch thing I will have to try that out. will keep reading.

the only thing I changed, other than the grammar, was the month, now it's march, but it used to be july (fun fact: that original sentence with the month of july is featured in part IX, that part had plenty of stuff like that)

I'm really enjoying the story so far. I especially like the part where Harron says, "One, two, one, two, testing! Tim, can you hear me? Just say yes if you can", in the beginning. I can't wait to see what happens next!Β

By the way I had to change the time from July to March due to continuity in the story, it's not logical for the sun to set at 6:00PM in July. Actually, if you want to set yourself, I checked some calculations on a website and part II of this story happens on March 15, 2015, March because in Part IV it is indicated that this happens during the NHL season, and the 2015 season started in October and ended in April, so the only other day of the year where the sun sets at around 6:00PM, being or September 17 or 18, is out.
