Description Splash page spread from mine and Chris's run on Captain America. I still think that the work we did on this series is some of our strongest to date.

What scanner do you use? I love Captain America and although I like Alex Ross I hate the new Costume they've come up with. That being said Have you ever been givin a book to ink thinking "wow I'm going to get to work on my fav character" only to find out they changed the character just before you were ready to start?

I use the EPSON 836XL. As for the second question.....hmmmm.....I remember when I was working on the first Age of Apocalypse series in the early 90's, my first real X-Men gig, thinking how lame it was that they gave Wolvy' a stump instead of a hand.

Hahaha. Yeah, I hated that stump as well. I totally agree that that was kinda lame.

when ur inking are u doing this all traditional or digital with a tablet? if ur doing it traditional do u tend to use fountain inks and brushes or markers/pens? alot of great ink work u just submitted, im a bit in the air with chris' work some of it looks like good realism while other stuff like some of the newer x-men work looks cartoonish

All of my inks are traditional. I use about 85% brush and 15% Crow Quill.

so its alot like painting really. do u work in house at marvel or in ur own studio, i ask cuz im not much for travelling/moving, plus i dont have the cash for the ride, if u work at home, how's that work getting assignments?

Its like painting in that youre laying down the medium with a brush but thats where the similarities end. Inking is an artform unto itself with its own unique set of rules and techniques. I work at home in my studio. The pages are FED EX'ed to me, I ink them, scan them, and e-mail the files to Marvel and the colorist.

i understand, no two artforms are the same. i must say ur ink work is very good, id like to try out the brush style inking. u must have a large scanner, comic boards/pages aren't small.

Thank God for Alex Ross' new Cap design. I'd have to smoke crack to ink all those damn scales in his old uniform.

I take it that the white marks were just placed over the zip-a-tone. Guess Chris could have used Duo-shade for the page too.

Nah, man. The hard stuff is what makes it all worth while! I love the scales. Yes, the white was done over the zip. I decided at the last minute to throw some zip on the piece to give it a little pop. I just sort of made the texture up as I went along.

NORVANDELL In reply to TimTownsend [2008-01-16 03:21:41 +0000 UTC]

It worked well.

I know Bradstreet likes to work in duo-shade, but I kinda thought that was zip yur usin.

I do agree though, that those details do make the piece, but thats a page that I would work with great care. Normally I crank out the easiest stuff first and try to get ahead of the dead line, so I can take some time with the harder stuff.

Now, who you need to ink is Perez, when he puts about 50 panals on a page, lets see how you are then.

Me and George would be a terrible combo' because Id take twice the time he does. With Chris, the pencils tend to be pretty simple which allows me to do nuts with the stuff. With someone like George, who puts in 10 million lines, it would take me forever to complete each page. I think Id burn out after one issue.

Same here, could hit a dead line with that guy.
