Description
This is for all those who believe in love....I'm kidding. But it is rather interesting that all two fairytale characters need in order to find happily ever after is beauty/handsomeness. Poor Cinderella here may have felt vindicated when she left her life of servitude to marry a wealthy stud, but what happened after a year or two? A couple of kids and a house to run, throw in a human vice or two, and it's not all fun and games.
This was another conceptual editorial piece for class about unrealistic expectations in marriage, in yet another new style for me with the tablet; painterly. I got a few comments that it might have looked more twisted/recognizable in the Disney cel style, and I would like to see it that way, too, but I'm very pleased with how it actually did turn out.

This is why you must be careful in whom you select as a mate.

this is a really good concept It does make you think about what happens "after happily ever after." I mean come on, Cindy and Charming meet one night, dance to a couple of songs, walk around a bloody park and suddenly they're in love? I like this, its hilariously wicked
I think the step mother and her daughters were probably better off than Cinderella.

Exactly! I'd love to see someone depict what happened to the step sisters.
It's funny you should say that, though, because that's one of the ideas behind Gregory Maguire's Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. It was a great inspiration for this piece, if indirectly since I'd read it quite some time before this assignment came out. The book has a good twist on the Cinderella story.

lol sounds like a good read I feel somewhat inspired to do a drawing of the evil step-sisters in modern times....
care to steal the idea and do that? lol
I love it when people draw/write twists on the classic fair tale stories. they're either extremely hilarious or very very weird....usually both.lol

You should do it!
See, I have step-sisters in real life, so I gotta be careful how I depict the fairytale. It gets referred to far too much as it is. Wouldn't want them reading into it...

lol. oh dear. :S well I hope they're not too horrible (although, if your very good with words, you could write a book about them and sell it to the world. fantastic pay back for any wrong deeds they've done to you )
i think i will actually

Wow. What an interesting concept! And you used the ultimate example of childhood expectations of "happily ever after" -- Cinderella.

Thank you. I forget now why I chose Cinderella. There were a lot of other hilarious suggestions for other fairytales. Fairytales have always been ripe for parody. *lol*

Oh my gosh this so rocks! You know how it goes 'They lived happily ever after...' (like the title) I always tried to invision what it would be like later on. Now I have that visiual! You should really do more like this...princesses later on pics, but that is just me.

It could be a very bitter and twisted series of images, that's for sure. Thanks for the comment.

I'm glad that came across. There was a lot of joking going on while I was developing the concept, so it was hard not to make it comical. >.<

Thank you! It may not have been logical to have her wearing the same dress, but I needed all the visual clues I could to make sure people knew she was Cinderella.
