Developed during the later half of the Clone Wars, the Perditor-class Heavy Star Destroyer was the Republic's answer to many of the larger CIS warships being seen in the outer rim sieges. While the ship is heavily armed, the ship's outer hull plating was extra sturdy and designed to take both heavy kinetic, as well as heavy energy hits. Not only this, but the ship's armor was designed to be able to take not only a single salvo from an enemy ship, but an entire consecrated barrage. This ship was designed to thrust itself into the middle of an enemy fleet, and then destroy it from within. However, the ship wasn't well suited for any other task other then destroying enemy ships, and thus required escorts from either a trio of Venator-class star destroyer , or a small flotilla of Liburna-class assault frigates , and Sagittarii-class escort carriers . Even though the Perditor-class Heavy Star Destroyer was intended for wide spread use, the Clone Wars came to an end when around 1/3 of the first batch was completed leading to only a handful seeing combat. Of that handful, their combat reports indicated that the design was more then capable of completing its assigned duties when used in the ways it was designed for.
After the Clone Wars, the few completed ships were pressed into Imperial service with those not completed either competed or scrapped depending on their level of completion. The Perditor-class Heavy Star Destroyer did not fair well under Imperial service as the ship was too specialized and couldn't complete the wide range of role ships of similar sizes could, such as the newer Imperial-class Star Destroyer. It was this reason that the last few were decommissioned and sent to the scrapper fields around the same time of the Venator-class.
