Ayo sat in the dark, aware that Mila was just as wide awake as she was. Ayotoni could see her silhouette across the room.
"Mila?" Ayo murmured tentatively, afraid she might be disturbing her roommate.
The figure shifted once, twice. Ayo waited for an answer.
"yeah?" came Mila's drowsy response.
"You toss a lot in your sleep." she stated, trying to make conversation. "What kind of stuff do you have nightmares about?"
Mila was quiet for a moment.
"... I dunno... Lot's of stuff, my mom, Shadow City, demons, blood... No big deal, really." Mila turned herself over. "Go to sleep Ayo... I know you work nights, but I gotta be well rested for the circus.
"fair enough," Ayotoni mumbled, closing her eyes. As the room fell quiet, she thought she could hear Mila choke back a cry.
