Usually, when someone says they wish something was different it means they don't really care for it. You stated, you wished it wasn't so centered and then asked me if I knew about the rule of thirds. Thus, the approach you took with your feedback made it seem like you didn't care for the centering of my piece. This is what I was commenting back on.

You, my dear, are mistaken. Look over at your 58 favorites count and scroll through. You'll see my name and the same time-stamp as my comment. Furthermore, my comment was nonjudgmental and completely objective; however this is not the point.
To separate ourselves from this tangent and continue the original dialog why did you chose not to apply the rule of thirds to your image? And why have you selected a square? Why choose such heavy vignetting, and why leave so much negative space above the central subject if you're not going to use any of the common techniques to create greater tension in your image? In and of themselves, these questions are not designed to elicit a negative response from you. They are, instead, designed for me to come to a greater understanding of your process in creating and an over all meaning to the image.

I did not find your comment to be judgmental. Rather I consider it as a critique from someone who has a more thorough background in photography than I do. I have read up on the rule of thirds but I am still very much a student when it comes to understanding composition, lighting, shading, and the works. As with most people who dabble in photo-manipulation we get caught up in the ease of it and forget the basics. I have recently gone back to the basics and started to educate myself to grow as an artist. Thus, preventing the cycle of repeating the same mistakes I make in my pieces. Overall, I agree with you that the piece has a lot of issues in it, which is why I am not exactly happy with it. I was actually surprised so many people did like it. The biggest issues I have is the overlay is too dark, her hair looks too heavy, and the piece feels off to me (this is probably due to the centering as you stated). However, being new to a lot of things I don't have that instant knowing of what's off I just feel it's off. If that makes sense? So the only thing I can do is continue to educate myself and work on avoiding these issues in future pieces. Thank you for your feedback and if you know of resources that could help me to avoid the issues you see such as books or sites please let me know.

The overall muted tones in combination with the sky really gives this piece an eerie emotional look. good job.
