Of course, an old ruin like that is more likely to be 'haunted' by Barn owls than anything else. Such beautiful birds...

I don't think there's anywhere for them to roost in the abbey itself but they're definitely in the area. There's some nesting behind where I live and they scream at me if I get too close. They REALLY seem like malevolent spirits then, lemme tell you.

Among the names used for Barn owls in the UK are Screech owls, Scream owls, Death owls and, surprisingly, Dobby owls. Seeing a wild Barn owl hunting along a hedgerow is a sight I've only been privileged to see once; in captivity their beauty is greatly diminished. Of course, seeing the white Red Kite at Rhayader was compensation, of a sort.
