In Tialah’s 153rd year, on the eve of her father’s Millennium Jubilee, the comet known as A'Real Geah'le* fell to Súil an Ath'i'glis and wrecked unfathomable devastation on the planet. The initial approach ignited the very air in its wake, and the force of its impact was felt for hundreds of ells**. A tidal wave several ells high swept over the mountain spine bisecting the continent and flooded the valleys and canyons from its tip to its tail. The plains on the western continent were largely spared the initial devastation, but a tsunami of terrifying proportions surged around the globe and reduced costal towns all along the continent to ruins within days.

Tens of millions died in the first few hours after impact. By the end of the first day hundreds of millions more died in the flooding and merciless waters in the comets wake. Of her father’s people, the sleih d'ine'siógnin, the last of the true daoine, Tialah alone survived. She was atop her master’s tower, eager to catch a glimpse of the comet as it passed. The top of the rushing waves crested over the tower, but the magics imbued in its stonework kept it aloft and her alive, if somewhat battered.

I have wanted to tackle this shot for a long time. This takes place several hours after the events shown in this test render: Test Render: The Cataclysm . I feel as though I have really grown my skills since that shot. This demonstrates the new Arcadia base for my Tialah figure, as well as some tweaks to the hair as suggested by a helpful Keriwan . It also has given me a chance to finally test an fx set I got weeks ago in one of the sales. I’m quite happy with how it renders that ‘wet’ look. I may have been a little too excessive in its application here, but I like how it worked out regardless.

I still need to work out the specifics of a lot of my world’s history, especially regarding the daioni and their descendants, the elves. Tialah is the last living ‘true’ daoini, although most people don’t distinguish between modern elves and their ancestors and instead refer to them collectively as daoini.

As a point of reference, the balcony where Tialah is laying is about 40 meters off the ground. By the time of the story proper, the waters have largely receded, but the debris dams cause by the massive waters made natural lakes throughout the mountain range, and the city of her birth remains flooded. The final version of that still only exists in my imagination, but it is the target of my current foray into learning Unreal.

We’ve come full circle as well. My initial inspiration for this story, Dragon Princess is now canonically correct. Tialah is in fact a princess.
