Description
Going really slowly I know, I am finding it a bit difficult to put in "useful" greebles, as opposed to just plating the whole thing. But I'll get there... we hope.
What's New:
*Front armour grid now has supports,
*Forward Rail gun in place,
*Torpedo Tubes in place, except no turrets to put them on yet,
*Started plating the hull,
*Lower front main greeble in place.

Something I can suggest, I think, would be visible optic arrays, cargo hatches, maybe a laser dome or two (considering USAF already has working weapons-grade lasers in the real-world, but that's optional even for their spaceships), and definently more of the RPG-cage-type armor, especially around the narrow-areas of the bridge between it's decks.
Alot of modern military equipment has a visual optic system, enabling nightvision, infrared, telescopic vision, and various other things. I got the impression from Stargate that these kinds of ships were heavily sensor-oriented, but sometimes an eyeball on the target helps.
Cargo hatches seem like something Earthy, at least, there's always hatches taking up alot of room on tanks. I wouldn't know where to put them or how big to make them, or even if they're a weak-spot (they likely would be), but even just a couple airlocks for a guy in a spacesuit to inspect the hull visually would add realism.
Spotlights. Seems kinda pointless in Space, but they're good for use in dark nebula, umbra/penumbra of planets and moons, etc.
An external craft-retrieving mechanism, such as a wire-guided rocket-propelled claw or (more realistically) a boom-arm would add a bit of realism to it's carrier roll. It could be stored in an afore-mentioned cargo hatch, or tuck neatly into grooves in the hull, and would allow the recovery of injured/broken fighters. *assuming they don't just have tractor beams*
RADAR plating, like on an AEGIS cruiser. It looks alot like normal hull greeble-ing, but usually it'd be on the bridge or bow and is geometric in shape, large, and often a lighter color than the standard part of the hull.
I hope these observations help. XD; Sorry to intrude!

Your not intruding at all, I agree, and hope to incorporate just about everything you mentioned.
If you look on the left hand side of the bow, behind the cage-armour, you can see two semi-spheres which look similar to the sensor/targeting system on an Apache Gunship. That's the start of a visual sensor network that will have hard points around the ship to give 360 degree vision.
Lasers, maybe. I'm not a huge fan of them, but may add a couple of realism.
The cage-armour will be added to all of 'sensitive' areas. Including smaller versions being mounted on turrets, because they are always the first thing to be hit.
Cargo hatches, yes. I know where I am going to put them, just haven't reached that far back yet.
Spotlights, check. I figured that a) they look cool and b) they can illuminate both their own hull and the enemies hull for visual targeting. (okay, in real life that wouldn't happen, but in SG they fight at knife-fight ranges.
No, no tractor beams for me I'm afraid. There are a number of systems that I could incorporate, depends how much space I have.
A magnetic 'spear gun' type mechanism,
A 'net' which could be fired at the fighter, and when it catches onto the fighter, it gets reeled back in,
Or as you say, a Space-Shuttle type boom, but on a bigger scale. This is probably what I will do, but may incorporate the other 2 into the rail-gun systems, as a back-up.
RADAR plating, nope, you got me on that one. I haven't actually heard of it.
Could you enlighten me onto it's use? Because it sounds like something I want to add.

The gainsboro-gray hexagons and white radar domes are components of the AEGIS system, a missile-targetting system that allows you to shoot down enemy aircraft and missiles with, well, your own missiles. XD It can also guide missiles along further ranges, such as an instance where a US AEGIS destroyer shot down a satellite.
Size of the plates and number of plates usually varies from ship to ship, but most any modern warship with anti-missile capability will have at least one.

Oooh, okay.
Will have to add a few of those.

That's pretty cool. It kinda reminds me of those ships from that X3 game

Thank you,
I've never heard of the 'X3' game to be honest. You must show me sometime.

Looking good.
In your last message back you said you want to do a more realistic design. Can you expand on that?

Well, I can try to expand.
I'm taking alot of inspiration from Modern and WW2 era naval ships, and modern armoured vehicles, as I mentioned above.
I want to incorporate an 'Earthy' feel, so that it looks like an expansion of our current military designs, as opposed to an adapted alien design.
That is what I mean by 'realistic'. I know that's not technically the correct term to describe what I am trying to achieve.

Looks really good and put together well so far, what program are you using? And What is the front amour grid?

I'm using Sketchup 7, of all programs.
The Front armour grid are those grids you can see suspended from the hull at the front. Such armour is used on alot of modern Armoured Vehicles, to deflect blasts and to minimise the effect of any weapons force on the hull.
I decided that it would look good on 'exposed' areas of a spaceship. Engines, Weapons etc...

Hmmm, I didn't know that. Makes perfect sense.
