Soundwave is one of the most infamous and fiercest members of the Decepticons other than it's leader, Megatron. Positioned as Megatron's loyal second-in-command, Soundwave's loyalty to Megatron is forever unquestioned. Due to the immense amounts of shared experience and cooperation between the two Cybertronians before the days of the war. Soundwave is well known for his silent, secretive, and mysterious nature, which is most likely a result of ensuring there is no risk of secrets being exposed. Soundwave was also known for commanding smaller Minicon companions, specifically the relentless Ravage, and the bloodlust Laserbeak. During the early days of Cybertron, Soundwave was involved as a Gladiator in Kaon, where he met Megatron and Shockwave, eventually fulfilling his dream to escape the pits and serve a greater purpose than fighting to the death for entertainment, and joining Megatron's military force, though he acted as their leading Spy. After having major assistance in the discovery of the Allspark, Soundwave sought to devote his entire life in service of Megatron, due to the immense experience and support he provided for him during the gladiatory era. This resulted in allowing for Soundwave to join the Decepticon cause without question and unleash his silent wrath upon the Autobot resistance.

During the Cybertronian war, Soundwave joined a small group of high ranking Decepticons, among them Megatron, to travel to Earth and retrieve the recently found Allspark in order to fulfil the Decepticon cause. However, their attempts were unsuccessful, as the Autobots and their alliance with the humans and their strike team ''N.E.S.T'' has forcibly pushed the surviving Decepticons back to Cybertron, where they would spend the next few years preparing for an invasion, fuelled by the vengeance of their loss.
