Someone mentioned this in the TVTropes' Gotham WMG page, showing this clip from Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. And I agree, they should totally end the series this way!
I can picture this happening: An adult Bruce Wayne (played by David Mazouz, if they plan to run the series until he's old enough to play Batman) suits up. A slightly-older Alfred (played by Sean Pertwee) hands him the mask. Before he puts it on Bruce looks right at it, as if thinking maybe he has a last chance to back away from this path. But then he sees a portrait of his parents, remembering how his life was completely destroyed when they were taken from him. He made his choice, and puts it on. Bruce Wayne is no more. He turns around, and the usually stone-faced Alfred was in total shock. The little boy he helped raised and has watched over has been replaced by someone else.
Sean Pertwee!Alfred: My god...
And he walks pass him, to go out into the night and protect the city from the evil that has emerged since his parents' deaths.

That would just be perfect. To see all the events that occur in the series, lead up to it ending with the beginning of the Bat.
