Description Comments and critique are always appreciated

My Sister took me to some of the monuments in Washington DC when I went up to visit her. This is the Washington Monument taken from the end of the Reflecting Pool.

I did not edit this to achieve this color. I took the photo with the flash on to get the orange color. I used this trick on a couple other photos in this series.

Lincoln Memorial
Atlantic Theater (amber)

Pacific Theater

Camera: Nikon D90
Lens Elements: 18-105mm (at 58mm)
Location: Washington DC, USA

I changed my mind about my comment, im going to critique

Absolutly great work, i really love the dark rich colours of your background dark and light browns and the almost golden monument with its great reflections in the water

Even the Very dark trees on the sides make for a great silhouette and actually make the image balanced.

However (one small little thing) you chopped the head of your subject matter with the water reflection, looks like there was some building or construct in the way(the dark black part at the bottom).

Once again great work, Hope your sister will take you here again so you can get another awesome attempt at this ^^

I see what you mean with the people hugging in the foreground. Unfortunatly you where at the wrong angle, or should have got more behind them for them to be a bigger feature, cant really see them, and from the silhouette it looks like one person, but i appreciate the vision you had for it ^^

Cutting the reflection... I understand what you mean, but the very dark black wall taking up 1/8th or so of your image didnt quite give the right effect. I think this would have been complimented tremendously if the Silhouette had worked with the couple as mentioned above.

Next time, take two models with you, get up closer on them so they feature more in the image, and even if you dont get the full reflection of the monument in, it should still be an amazing shot.

I STILL think THIS one is an amazing shot. I really like your trick to get those rich brown skies. Just perfect. So very well Done

So keen to see more of your work

^^

Thank you very much for the critique

Okay! The reflection: I have always had a thing about reflections. For some reason, I find full reflections...to lack...something. I have always enjoyed reflections that are cutting the subject in some way. Unfortunately, I did not try this with the full reflection, but if I get another chance to go back to visit her someday, I will definitely try this shot again with a full reflection.

The dark black part at the bottom: I'm not sure if I have the right thing or not, but I assume you're referring to the silhouette next to the lowest part of the reflection. That was a couple sitting together, hugging; I was elated that they stayed still while I was shooting, but saddened when I put this on the computer and realized that they did not play as people in the photo.

Thank you very much for a fantastic critique!

You know what! Thats messed the hell up man! I mean, whats the freaking chance that no creatures wanna get on that water? I mean, it looks perfectly smooth. even just a slight breeze, then that would logically make sense. but I guess that you're just that epically awesome. Ohh, and dont think that I dont notice the one guy standing there... lol.

+20points

+5points

However (one small little thing) you chopped the head of your subject matter with the water reflection, looks like there was some building or construct in the way(the dark black part at the bottom).

Dont ask me what the +10, +5, +40 points thing is, just the way i talk, its a compliment to how cool i think your image is.

Once again great work, Hope your sister will take you here again so you can get another awesome attempt at this

hahaha i'm very grateful for the couple that stayed still while i took this one. there were so many others where people would slowly creep across the frame and leave massive ugly streaks on the exposure D:
